Your Dating Preferences Are Nobodyâs Business...âď¸
If youâre single with no kids and you donât want to date someone who has children, then donât. Itâs that simple. Dating a parent is a serious commitment that brings extra baggageâcustody schedules, ex-partners, financial responsibilities, and divided attention. Plenty of child-free adults know they donât want any part of that life. They prefer a clean slate where they can focus on building their own future without stepping into an existing family. That choice is valid. It doesnât make you selfish or cold. Nobody owes anyone a relationship. Dating is not a charity or a test of your moral character. Youâre allowed to have dealbreakers, especially on something as life-changing as kids.
A woman who wants to have her own children or protect her career doesnât have to settle for a single dad. A man who values freedom and quiet weekends can pass on dating a single mom. These are practical decisions about compatibility, not attacks on parents. The guilt trips need to end. Shaming people for their preferences doesnât create better relationshipsâit creates resentment. Kids deserve adults who actually want to be in their lives, not someone who feels pressured into it. And adults deserve the freedom to choose partners whose realities match their own. Preferences arenât prejudice. Theyâre self-aware.
Date who you want. Respect other peopleâs choices. Stay in your lane and let others stay in theirs. No explanations required.
