Continuing our series on excellent second wines from Bordeaux, let's take a quick look at the 2017 vintage of Ballade de La Pointe Pomerol from Château de La Pointe.

93% Merlot balanced with 7% Cabernet Franc, the nose offers wild fruit aromas of Blackberry, Blueberry and Black Cherries.

This is an elegant and affordable Pomerol wine that faithfully reflects the character of the region. It is an excellent choice for those who wish to explore the style of the Pomerol wine region without paying the price of premium-category wines.

2016 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel is your chance to try this superb award-winning winemaking team's take on Haut-Médoc for a relatively low price.

At 77% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc, this is extremely rich and soft, with silky, plush tannins, and nice cherry, dark chocolate, and mint flavours.

It has deep, concentrated tannins, and great acidity, so it will surely continue to age well.

The 2015 vintage of Relais de la Dominique proves the value of second wines in great vintages - Why? because it scores 92 from Tim Atkin, UK Master of Wine and has a whopping 4.2 rating from Vivino - So it is worth seeking out.

Now at its perfect maturity, the bouquet is a fascinating mix of cherries, flowers, mint, earth and spices. On the palate, it shares Chateau La Dominique's open, gentle style, with its beauty and brilliance coming from its complexity.

Plums, cherries, chocolate, star anise, blueberries and woodsmoke are all in evidence, making for a wonderfully satisfying Bordeaux classic.

If you like sweet wines you will love Le 2 de Romer du Hayot, Chateau Romer du Hayot, Sauternes, Bordeaux. 🇫🇷🍭

Crafted from 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc and aged in barrels for 6-8 months, this golden coloured white wine has a nose of beeswax, honey and citrus barley sugar.

On the palate it is rich and sweet with some caramel and hazelnut notes and clean acidity.
