How many months does it take to grow rice?
Rice cultivation is divided into 2 main types: 1.photosensitive rice and 2.non-photosensitive rice. Both types
have different characteristics, planting periods, and growing periods.
👉1.Photosensitive rice👈
Photosensitive rice is rice that conceives and flowers during shorter days than nights.
It requires less than 12 hours of light to conceive and flower. It is popularly grown during the wet season.
(May-August) It is divided into light rice, medium rice, and heavy rice, which have different planting periods. Light rice flowers in September-October, medium rice flowers in late October-November, and heavy rice flowers in December-February.
There are 4 main photosensitive rice varieties grown in Thailand:
1. Jasmine rice 105
2. Khao Khao 15
3. Phitsanulok rice 3
4. Khao Khao 6
👉2. Planting non-photosensitive rice👈
Non-photosensitive rice is rice that flowers according to its age. It can be planted all year round if there is enough water. The photoperiod does not affect the formation of inflorescences. This rice variety has a fairly fixed flowering and harvesting period according to its age. It is divided into light rice, medium rice, and heavy rice, similar to photosensitive rice. Each variety
has different temperature requirements. Non-photosensitive rice has a lifespan of approximately 105-150 days. Examples of this rice variety are:
1. Khao Jao Chai Nat 1
2. Khao Jao Suphan Buri 1
3. Khao Jao Suphan Buri 3 (Don Chedi)
4. Khao Jao Phitsanulok 2
5. Khao Jao Pathum Thani 1
6. Khao Jao Khao Khao 29 (Chainat 80)
