Our very first interns at Khao Yai Vanilla, N’Ruangkhao and N’Ice, said goodbye to us this week as they wrapped up their time here. Traveling all the way from Thaksin University, Phatthalung Campus, they spent two incredible months immersed in hands-on learning, diving deep not only into the world of vanilla but also mastering smart farming technologies and cultivating other crops like avocados and salad greens. Here are their touching testimonials from their journey with us! 🥰🥰
“Our internship at Khao Yai Vanilla completely transformed how we view the world of agriculture, opening our eyes to a side of vanilla we had never imagined before. Coming into this, we only really knew vanilla as a sweet aroma or a simple ingredient in our favorite desserts, but stepping into the actual farm changed everything. We were instantly immersed in the entire life cycle of the plant, from the initial propagation and planting to the delicate art of hand-pollinating the flowers, training the vines, managing the precise humidity levels, and monitoring overall plant health. It did not take us long to realize that producing high-quality vanilla is an incredibly demanding process that requires immense patience, meticulous attention to detail, and a deep sense of care. Beyond the daily farm operations, we were even given the creative freedom to think up and develop our own research topics based on what we were passionate about, all while getting to help care for the various other plants and livestock around the property.
What made this journey truly unforgettable was the wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere that greeted us every single day. From the very beginning, Khun Nikki and all the staff members treated us like family, patiently guiding us through every task and sharing their wealth of knowledge without making us feel pressured. This supportive environment allowed us to grow immensely, sharpening our practical skills, building our sense of responsibility, and teaching us how to problem-solve through real-world challenges. On top of that, the farm became a meeting ground where we connected with new peers from different universities, allowing us to exchange ideas, share laughs, and build deep, lasting friendships that we will cherish forever. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity, the mentorship, and the beautiful memories we made during our time here, and we know that the invaluable lessons we learned will serve as a strong foundation for our future studies and careers.” - N’Ruangkkhao and N’Ice
