Sometimes, a cheesecake carries more than a celebration.
A few days ago, a customer in Georgia reached out to order two cheesecakes for her family here in Trinidad.
The occasion was bittersweet.
August 7th was Ishmael and Isaiahâs 18th birthday. They were twins, but sadly, Isaiah passed away on June 29th while doing something he loved.
August 7th was also the 100th birthday of their great-great-grandmother, Elsie, who has also passed on.
So these cheesecakes were being sent home for a day filled with love, celebration, remembrance and grief.
She couldnât physically be here with her family, so she did the next best thing she could. She sent a little piece of her love from Georgia.
I personally delivered the order to Aunt Linda in Arima, and seeing the gratitude on her face genuinely touched me. I had to hold back tears.
Maybe it hit me so deeply because Iâve experienced that feeling myself. When my grandmother passed, I wasnât able to be there with her either.
And it reminded me of something I sometimes forget:
Weâre not always just making cheesecake.
Sometimes weâre helping someone celebrate from miles away.
Sometimes weâre part of someoneâs goodbye.
Sometimes weâre helping a family create a beautiful memory in the middle of something incredibly painful.
And sometimes, weâre simply delivering a little reminder that someone who couldnât be there was thinking of you.
That is something I donât take lightly.
