Are you a beginning gardener who is serious about learning to grow food (and community!) in this region? 

Then we’re here to help! 

This course will teach you how to start gardening, improve your gardening results, and/or figure out how to grow in this high desert ecosystem.  

The high desert offers a great opportunity and significant challenges, including a short frost-free growing season, intense heat, bright sunshine, and cold nights.  We will travel together through the year in the Reno-ish, NV, and other high desert regions. 

Gardening is just one part of this course. Mellissa Gilbert will teach us how to take what we've grown in the garden and turn it into something delicious and nutritious. Suddenly have tomatoes coming out of your ears? Then we’ve got you covered!

A Year in Gardening & Cooking For Beginners: How to grow, harvest and prepare food in the Great Basin region.

Join us in the garden with Katy Chandler and in the kitchen with Melissa Gilbert; Learn from their local expertise and experience the joy of growing and eating food grown with your own two hands.

This year-long course includes monthly videos, written tutorials, quarterly in-person gatherings with free seed giveaways, as well as access to our 'Ask Us Anything' gardening chatline.  

Throughout the year, we will be providing insights from our region's farmers and successful gardeners and cooking essentials and seasonal recipes from well seasoned (pardon the pun) chefs and home cooks.

That’s a wrap ya’ll … Oh my goodness did we have some life affirming, fun, and inspiring times during our 3rd Annual Local Food Week! Thanks to the dozens of businesses & non-profits plus the thousands of people who participated in bolstering our local food system community!! We’re pretty tired haha so taking off to the coast to sleep on the beach and breath some fresh air, but we’ll be back and ready to dig deep into the possibility of collectively getting more high desert grown produce to people 🌱🍉🌟
