Top 10:
1. Mark Robinson #
《TEMPURA and LOVE》 • 《GYOZA and LOVE》
《GINGER and LOVE》 • 《NEGI & POTATO KEEP MOVING》
2. Taiwan’s 400 Year History (Anniv. Ed.)
LUROUFAN TAIWAN
4. Taiwan Travelogue
5. Nara Yosh*tomo in Taiwan
6. A New Illustrated History of Taiwan
10. The Mapping of Taiwan: Desired Economies, Coveted Geographies
HĒHĒ BOOKSTORE & WINE⸝⋆

2025 marked the second year of Hēhē’s presence at Bookbar 1920s.
At last, like many other bookstores, we were able to create our very first annual ranking.
Last year, we sold a total of 2,849 books.
Among them, December stood out with 361 books sold, making it the highest-selling month of the year.
In a place like Dadaocheng, where so many bookstores coexist, reaching this number truly feels moving and meaningful to us.
In 2025, in addition to our original focus on philosophy and Taiwanese history, we expanded our selection to include many foreign-language translations of Taiwanese authors, as well as Taiwanese cookbooks published in other languages.
Little by little, a Francophone corner has grown inside our small shop.
Published by Librairie Le Pigeonnier, MADE IN TAIWAN became our best-selling title.
As for French-translated Taiwanese comics, we have met several French visitors who told us that they already own a few copies on their bookshelves back home. Isn’t that wonderful?
Below are HĒHĒ’s Top 10 Books of 2025.
1. Mark Robinson Illustrated Books
Our number one bestseller is the illustrated book series by Mark Robinson.
《TEMPURA and LOVE》 • 《GYOZA and LOVE》 《GINGER and LOVE》 • 《NEGI & POTATO KEEP MOVING》
Robinson is an Australian artist based in Japan who personally visits bookstores around the world. His approach is incredibly hands-on and sincere.
Sometimes our team even receives small gifts from him, and before we know it, we have become devoted followers.
You can also find recordings online where Robinson reads his stories aloud himself.
2. Taiwan’s 400 Year History (Anniversary Edition)
When international readers ask, “What Taiwanese books would you recommend?” this is always our first choice.
Once, a customer bought this book and returned the next day, ordered two glasses of white wine, and said they wanted to keep reading until they finished it.
3. LUROUFAN TAIWAN
Many customers tell us they have seen this book in stylish concept stores.
The cover design is especially eye-catching. When we first received it, we even put up a poster.
Sure enough, some tourists walked in and asked, “Do you sell braised pork rice here?”
One day, we would love to follow this book and embark on a journey to taste braised pork rice across Taiwan.
The author has also released Breakfast Taiwan and Coffee Taiwan, both in compact, pocket-sized map editions that are easy to carry.
4. Taiwan Travelogue
The English translation of Taiwan Travelogue by Shuang-Zi Yang, translated by Lin King, and awarded the U.S. National Book Award for Translated Literature.
This may be one of the rare cases in which the English edition outsells the original Chinese version in Taiwanese bookstores.
Foreign visitors often ask us directly how many copies we still have in stock.
We also carry other works translated by Lin King, including The Boy from Clearwater.
5. Nara Yosh*tomo in Taiwan
Nara Yosh*tomo 2021 Taiwan Exhibition
Have you seen the Taiwanese landmarks that Nara Yosh*tomo shared on social media? Together, they almost form the shape of Taiwan itself.
Beyond the exhibition venues, he also traveled deeply across the island.
What draws people to Nara is not only his artwork, but also his attentive and thoughtful way of observing the world.
6. A New Illustrated History of Taiwan
This book is the English translation of Illustrated History of Taiwan by Professor Wan-yao Chou, and it also became the very first book we sold in 2026.
The buyer was an international guest who joined our New Year’s Eve all-you-can-drink event.
We also carry many of Professor Chou’s other works in the shop and warmly invite readers to browse them.
7. The Little Prince: A Philosopher Pilot's Lonely Love Letter (80th Anniversary Collector's Edition)
We have collected many editions of The Little Prince, including phonetic editions, bilingual and trilingual versions, as well as a Taiwanese-language edition.
This collector’s edition is the smallest hardcover version and is exquisitely made.
At our Thursday philosophy reading group, we sometimes conduct thought experiments inspired by The Little Prince.
8. The Real Stories Behind Taiwanese Food and Drink
This is a book we quietly believe every staff member should own.
We are often asked where to eat nearby, what to try at Ningxia Night Market, and how to introduce Taiwanese street food to international visitors. This book is extremely practical.
9. Taiwan Travelogue (Chinese Edition)
Through food, this book invites readers to explore the land more deeply.
Many readers first encounter the English edition and later return to purchase the original Chinese version.
We also carry the Japanese edition in the shop.
10. The Mapping of Taiwan. Desired Economies, Coveted Geographies
Our final pick is our true store treasure.
This English edition of The Mapping of Taiwan is also the most frequently browsed book in the shop.
Each time we see travelers, even those staying only briefly, choose to carry such a large book home with them, we feel deeply touched.
-
This was our first time creating an annual ranking, and we were not quite sure where to begin.
As we looked back on these books, what came to mind were all the moments of introducing them to our readers.
So we recorded them one by one, just like this.
Being a bookseller and chatting with readers truly makes me happy. I hope this happiness can continue for a very, very long time.
Last year, on Guìdé Street, we also opened our own bookstore.
HĒHĒ BOOKSTORE & WINE︎︎◝✩
Our selection focuses on philosophical illustration, comics, and picture books.
Thanks to the flower arrangement classes held by the florist downstairs, we have also welcomed many families and children.
We hope that this space will have its own annual ranking in the future, and we look forward to it together.
In 2026, HĒHĒ will continue to select books with care.
We wish all fellow booksellers and readers a year filled with books and joy.
