Recently, Wednesday nights have felt a little special. The YK space has been filled with laughter, English conversations, and many moments that make you pause and think.
After yesterday’s event, we were chatting with our American speaker, and she shared a very interesting experience. She said that when she was in high school in the United States, one of her history classes left a deep impression on her.
The teacher organized a debate activity with the question:
“If you were the decision-maker during World War II, would you have ordered the atomic bomb to be dropped on Japan?”
The whole class was divided into two groups and began debating.
During the discussion, students were free to change their position and switch sides at any time, constantly rethinking their own views.
In the end, the teacher never gave a “correct” answer.
It was a history class. But it wasn’t about memorizing dates or preparing for exams. It was about learning how to think.
What kind of impact do you think a history class like this could have? Why?
