Barn time is time well spent.
β€’
I have always loved the time I have spent in barns. It is a place where I can think or let my mind wander or lose track of time.
β€’
I remember helping my Grandpa Joe polish his pony harness in his always β€œneat as a pin” barn in Iowa.
β€’
Growing up I remember our barn as the place to play with my brothers or new baby kittens. We would train horses in the round barn or, in a rain storm, stand at the barn gate and watch rain pour off the roof.
β€’
I’ve cried in a barn or two over lost lambs and lost loves. I remember once walking into our barn to find a young horse Roger and I had hanging by its front feet in a stall! We had to use a tractor and chain to lift the poor thing to freedom.
β€’
I have cleaned stalls and saddled my kids’ horses hundreds of times. So many memories...
But I would have to say my all-time favorite barn memory would be my dad teaching me to two-step in the alleyway of our barn. We danced many evenings to the country music from a barn radio that constantly played a local FM station.
Thanks Dad... for the horses you bought me, the advice you gave me and all the barn dances... Time well spent.

Wide open spaces feel like the possibilities are endless...
β€’
There is a certain peace I feel when riding across the prairie that I cannot put into words. Room to think. Room to not think. Room to reflect. Room to dream. Room to thank God for all He has done.
β€’
We have leased this preserve from the Nature Conservancy the last few summers. It is a privilege to ride these native lands and check our steers.
β€’
The steers will call the 1400 acres home from March until August. Some will be sold through commercial channels. Some will return to the ranch headquarters to continue to grow. Those will be part of our ranch to table beef here at Callison Ranch.
β€’
They are grown naturally on these vast prairie grasses.
β€’
I think I grow in nature tooβ€”-mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I hope this summer you find a time and a place to be in nature; to connect with the land, the wide open spaces and with who you were meant to be. Sometimes feeling small brings us closer to what is truly meaningful.
β€’
I shared yesterday’s ride on my stories and will add to Prairie 2021 Highlights. You can also find past summers in highlights.
β€’
Tell me where you like to connect with nature...

Surround yourself with people who make you better...
β€’
Amy and Brook are two amazing humans that I am blessed to call my friends.
β€’
Amy and her family moved from Orange County California several years ago to ranch in Jackson Hole, WY. They raise Hereford cattle and four of the sweetest little kids you ever saw.
β€’
Brook and her family call Washington home. They raise purebred red Angus cattle, build beautiful homes and have a custom hay operation along with their 3 sons.
β€’
That’s the basics of who these women are; but I am drawn to their hearts. They love God and their families above everything else. They are kind, they are servants. They are smart, they run their own businesses. They discuss issues affecting us all and look for solutions. They hope for a better world while smiling for today. They are sunshine.
β€’
We are all in Oklahoma together for the M5 & Rural Revival Workshop. 75 women gathered last night for a long table supper @coytranch to kick off the event. (Shout out to Royers of Round Top for the amazing food)
β€’
It is my prayer that each and every one of the women here will find friends and connect with other women while they are here. A tribe to help guide them as they navigate business and life; friends who make them better and bring sunshine to their life.
β€’
Last night I met ladies from New York, Kansas, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Hawaii. I am so excited today to get to know each of the 75 attendees better and build new friendships. Thank you to Mary of @m5entrepreneurs and Danna of @ruralrevivalco for their vision and for making this #M5XRRworkshop a reality here in #pawhuska

My Sister-in-law Sara had the vision to host a Women’s Bucking Bull Futurityβ€”a chance for women and girls of all ages to experience the exhilaration of the bucking bull sport. Sara and my brother Cord raise bucking bulls. The quick and athletic animals are bred to buck!
β€’
The 75 contestants at the Tulsa Time Invitational Women’s Futurity were able to bring their own 2 yr old bull or compete with one owned by someone else. Cord and Sara let me compete with β€œFirst Infraction,” a son of their great bull β€œRidin Solo” that you often see on television at Professional Bullriding events (#PBR)
β€’
Cord gave lessons in flanking a bull by patiently showing the first time participants the details in tying the special knot for flanking a bucking bull to initiate their most athletic performance. (With special instructions for me to get my chin out of the way when First Infraction kicks out of the chute!)
Sara stood next to each of the 75; encouraging and cheering each woman in turn.
β€’
It was a great experience for all... watch more details in my highlights under β€œBull Futurity”
β€’
The event ended with a Western swing band, lots of good food, smiles and new friends. Well worth the courage to try something new!
