Here are a few tips from Ada’s Favorite Plumbing Company (that’s us).
If your pipes have not frozen yet then they will unless you do a few things:

1. Turn on the hot water at the fixture furthest from your water heater. The stream needs to be slightly smaller than a pencil.
2. Close or cover all outside vents that go under your house if you have a crawlspace. This keeps the cold air from accessing the pipes. Open them back up in the spring.
3. Open cabinet doors to sinks that back up to an outside wall to allow heat from your house to get to the pipes. You can also use a small space heater if that area is poorly insulated.
4. Wrap and cover all exterior faucets-even if they are the “frost free” style. Disconnect your water hoses.

Call us if you have any problems or questions: 580-332-7668

2. Does your water emit a weird smell and you're not sure why? It could be bad elements in your hot water tank.
3. Are you noticing water backing up in the drains in your house? You could have a clog that's only getting worse!
4. Are you sick and tired of cleaning hard water spots off your dishes, countertops, appliances and faucets? Call us for a free estimate on a #watersoftener system (life-changer!)

Something else unexplainable going on? Call us today and we'll come out to try and diagnose the issue!

FREEZE WARNING: disconnect your water hose and insulate/cover all outside water fixtures to prevent freezing pipes tonight.

12/20/2018

You better not pout, you better not cry; you better not doubt your family will try...
1. To flush random objects down the toilet. Consider kid-proofing toilet seats and keeping trash cans next to the commode to avoid clogged and slow-flushing toilets.
2. To cram too much food in the garbage disposal. Holiday meals create a lot of dishes. It's best to discard food into the trash can and use the sink for rinsing only during heavy chores. Avoid pouring items like grease and gravy down the sink as well.
3. To clean up a mess outside. Make sure if someone uses your hose to disconnect it when finished to avoid frozen pipes in winter weather.
4. To put it all down the drain. Hair stoppers (available at most large retailers) are a good way to protect clogs from happening when your showers are being used more than normal. A clog like this is a gift you don't want to receive.

Hopefully you find these tips helpful over the next few weeks! If you do encounter a plumbing problem, please call us at 580-332-7668. Note we will be close Monday, 12/24, and Tuesday, 12/25.

We wish you all a very happy Holiday Season!

Hey everyone just wanted to let you all know we will be closed tomorrow for Independence Day. We will reopen at 8am on Thursday!

Summer is here so let's go over a few necessities to help with a few common plumbing issues...

1. Cleanouts. You need a cleanout! A cleanout is an access point on the main drain line of a house that helps with drain diagnosis and maintenance. Make sure you have a cleanout - if not then call us to install one. Also check to see that your cleanout cap is exposed, visible, and accessible. Most drain problems that occur can be made easier to deal with when you have a cleanout.

2. Water meters. Know where your water meter is located. Keep the meter box cleaned out. If you have a water emergency you need to be able to shut your water off quickly. If your meter box is filled with dirt or overgrown with grass then shutting your water off will not be an easy task. Take some time to clear out any dirt inside the meter box that is covering the meter and the shutoff valve. Keep the area around the box mowed and free from clutter. If your water meter is far from your house then consider putting a secondary shut off closer to the house..

3. Hose Bibbs. DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN! Constant over-tightening will damage your hose bibb. You should be able to shut off a hose bibb using finger tight pressure. It will drip for a few seconds but should stop. If it does not then you probably already have a damaged washer that needs to be replaced - or a better solution would be to replace the hose bibb. Make it a point to disconnect your water hoses when they are not being used. Leaving a hose connected to a spigot can cause the fixture to develop a leak due to pressure from siphoning. If you have a spigot with an anti-siphon feature then you have less to worry about.

4. Shut off valves. Most fixtures inside a home that use water also will have a shut off valve (sinks, washer, toilets, etc.) Schedule a time at least once a month to check the shut off valves at each fixture. Leaving a shut off valve untouched for too long will result in a frozen valve. These valves, while able to turn after exerting a little force, will more than likely cease to shut off water completely or even leak through the handles. Testing them monthly will help them to continue to operate properly.

Just a few tips for this summer. Hope you have a great summer and let us know if you have any plumbing needs!

Seasonal Plumbing Tips for Fall
Fall is making its way to Oklahoma and chilly temperatures serve as a polite reminder that when winter arrives it can be sudden, often leaving homeowners unprepared for the troubles associated with extreme cold. A few simple preparations now will help prevent headaches and costly repairs throughout the winter months.
Protect your outdoor faucets:
The number one problem we run into when the mercury drops is damaged outdoor faucets. Something as simple as disconnecting your water hoses from the faucet can save you from a broken spigot. If left connected, water in the hoses may freeze and expand causing faucets and connecting pipes inside your home to freeze and break.
It is also imperative to make sure your outdoor spouts aren’t dripping or leaking. If you have a leaky spigot then call us to give you a hand before the freezing temperatures arrive. When the pipes freeze, water pressure builds causing cracks. Even a tiny crack can unleash enough water to cause serious damage or flooding.
We also highly recommend closing interior shut-off valves leading to outside faucets and draining the lines if your home is equipped with them.
Lastly, cover outside faucets using a Styrofoam faucet insulation kit available at home centers.
Inside home:
Pipes that are exposed to the elements have a greater risk of freezing. Insulate pipes in unheated areas, such as garages or crawl spaces to cut down your chances of developing a leak.
Your water heater works harder during winter months. Flush it out and remove sediment buildup, which causes corrosion, shortens life span and reduces heating efficiency. You can drain a few gallons yourself...or to make your life easier - call us!
Check the temperature setting on your water heater’s thermostat. Set it at 120°F for optimum performance.
Outside home:
Clear leaves and debris from outside gutters and downspouts to ensure easy drainage when water freezes and thaws throughout the winter season.
If your home has a sump pump make sure to inspect and clean the pump and pit. Pumps exposed to extreme cold can freeze, preventing the pump from operating.
