Our Story
South Carolina’s Elite Kubota Tractor Dealer
In the late 1970s Billy Steen, Sr. always had a used tractor or piece of equipment by the road with a for sale sign on it. He would take the profits from those sales and buy more farm equipment to fix up and sell. It didn’t take too long for his hobby to become a side business. By 1979, it was apparent that there was a demand for clean used farm equipment in rural Charleston County. Billy convinced his wife, Bille Jean, (who happened to be pregnant) that if they could save up $10,000 he could quit his full- time job and make a go of it in the tractor business.
In 1980 Steen Enterprises, Inc. was founded. By the mid- 1980s International Harvester and Zetor took notice of the used tractor dealership near Charleston. The business grew with those new tractor brands and attachment brands like Woods and Hardee. Toward the end of the decade the Ford New Holland brand was added.
The 1990s saw the addition of the Kioti, and Cub Cadet brands. The dealership gained a new building to go with the original (and still in use!) barn. The 1990s also saw Billy’s oldest son, Billy Steen, Jr., come into the business full time.
2001 was one of the most important years in all of Steen Enterprises’ history. The Kubota brand was added that year and quickly became the sales leader. In 2002 Billy’s middle son, Adam Steen, joined the family business full time. Billy’s youngest son, Andy Steen, started in 2008. With the attention of family and great employees Steen Enterprises survived the recession and emerged ready for the next decade.
Today Steen Enterprises is still a family business and strives to treat its employees and customers like family. Many of Steen Enterprises 30 plus employees have been with the company for over 10 years. Coming from such humble beginnings Steen Enterprises would not be the elite tractor dealership it is today without that service driven, expert staff. Equally, Steen Enterprises would not be one of the largest Kubota dealers in the Southeast without great customers. Thank you! We appreciate your business!
