Shelby Lynn Fancy Pants Bennett bout wore us OUT this last month. I mean, this girl gets blow outs, hoof caretaking, skin care, more love than any other female in this house, just sayin’! First, her caretaker got dry socket after 4-wisdom tooth extraction over Thanksgiving break. Advantage: momma Bennett got extra Shelby bonding. That is all... That hair THO!

Need name suggestions for this sassy GoRgEoUs fluffy thang!! Show heifer updates below. (heifer= a young female cow that has not yet had a calf, once she has a baby (calves), she is a cow!)

It’s been a hot minute since we updated on our calf scramble project- our middle son, and La Vernia Senior, Brayden’s, Show Heifer. Info below pics for context. We are learning here! Since Brayden caught in the San Antonio Calf Scramble, he received some
Monies to go towards a breeding livestock animal to show at next springs San Antonio show. He opted to do a heifer (a breeding goat would have been soooooooo much easier…!)- the best part, she’s 100% registered full blooded Hereford, fantastic genetics and bone structure, and after show season we are going to A.I. (artificially inseminate) her and have registered Farmers Daughter Hereford Babies, y’all! Herefords were the first breed of cattle this Farmers Daughter grew up with, so I’m kinda partial. 🥰

The last few months have been a blur, kids are pretty active in a LOT, and both of us have fulltime jobs. With that- like most of you- animals, agriculture, farming and ranching bring us immense joy. As a parent who grew up w 4H and FFA, I am a huge advocate for all youth to participate in both or either- 1000% no better life or leadership skills from anything else for our youth. But that’s another story…

Brayden is working hard to get his heifer’s hair and coat trained and kept beautiful. Part of this starts as daily grooming to get dirt out, and several times a week- hair blown, roots stimulated, washed then blown out. And brushed more. Repeat. Y’all. This girl gets 10000% more spas than me and then some! Next stop, a heifer pedicure. 😆 She gets fed grain twice a day and daily roughage/fiber (Sudan or coastal hay, Sudan is her FAVE). Part of this of course includes haltering her and walking her and getting her used to- or desensitized to- all sorts of stimulation. The Bennett Crazy Farm kinda swims in constant stimulation ✅ 😂

“Won’t you be… my neighbor?
?” Located in Adkins, TX, just outside San Antonio. We have (5) adorable sweet ‘toddler’ blue eyed Pygmies looking for a new home. (4) boys {“wethered” or castrated} & (1) girl {doe} remaining. All born in mid May, won’t get much bigger than what you see w the mommas ~40#. They are docile, loving, the best organic, brush/scrap cleaner upper’s ever! All you need is an enclosure, some sort of protection from rain, water, grazing &, {preferably} some 🐐 love. ❤️🐐💙

Sometimes you just gotta fly the coop. I get it. Babies jumped out of nesting box, she followed. Amazing, a momma chickens instincts. Protect her babies at all costs, can’t be everywhere at once. Will see how many of the (13) left will hatch. ❤️🥚🙈🐓🙌🏼❤️

G.O.A.T. back to school pick me up, EVER! Beautiful, docile, adorable little lawnmowers ready to love on YOU! Located in Adkins, TX. These little multi colored pygmies make the best backyard companions- and they are going fast! 6 males & 2 females remaining. Males are “gender neutral” (castrated); goats are HERD animals & truly meant to be in pairs. These won’t get much bigger than 40#. Happy to answer pics, always available for consultation & advice! Basic needs: fresh water, feed/forage, shade, and protection from rain! And some human love. ❤️🐐❤️

Baby Jenny, 5 days old ❤️ 🐎 ❤️

{donkey story post alert} So we ‘rescued’ two donkeys last fall. Had ZERO idea what we were doing. I can say, they are in much better care now. Original concept was for them to be guardians of our goat herd, and cattle. I was determined to build our mini herd- one was bred, the super sweet docile one we named Irene (after Grandma Irene, my Matriarch). Although we were told she would foal in Dec- that turned into May. Well, the formerly abused extremely hesitant other female donkey, Juliet, turns out was also bred. 😅🥹 Only knew cause she got reallllly fat, and was waxing! And now we have baby Jenny #2 and although there was some interference with work and travel- she’s penned now and has come so far!! She’s taught me more than I have ever expected & for that I am SO thankful. ❤️🐎❤️

Update: waxing is something seen in horses and donkeys often right before birthing (foaling)- their small bags literally drip the thick liquid gold or “colostrum” as their body prepares for birth. How amazing is that?!? It looks like wax as it’s super thick and super concentrated aka ‘liquid gold’. And she foaled 3 days later! Quiz time! {zoom in on left pic}-> Any clue what this means, better yet what it’s called? An equine friend recently educated me…. So awesome! Wish our goats did this…. Guesssss what?????
