Once again we are braving the rain! Getting ready to head to the Johnson City Farmers Market. I have Apple Cinnamon Walnut Bread, Fresh Pumpkin Pecan Bread, Pumpkin Rolls, Pumpkin Spice cookies, Apple Butter, Apple Jelly, Indian Corn, Ornamental Gourds for fall decorating, and turnips. Janet will be there with fresh baked Sourdough Bread. Stephanie had made some beautiful and tasty Apple Rose Pastries also. So, grab your umbrella and come get some of this good stuff. No pumpkins today due to the weather. It's just to difficult to load and unload them in the rain and messiness of it all. Feel free to share. We do offer curb side service, LOL, give me a call if your wanting goodies, park your car and one of us will bring it to you. Now that's customer service! LOL 470-1227

Well, the Apple Festival is over. Which makes me sad and glad all at the same time. I would have to say even though it rained like crazy for two days, myself along with Janet Byrd of Jan's Baked Good's had a wonderful time! I would definitely say that it was successful! Thank you to all that stopped to visit us! Special thanks to Linda Roberts and Stephanie Tolley Glass for all their help. You both made it so much easier on Janet and me! We're already planning and looking forward to next year!

I've been a somewhat slacking on posting to our farm page. So I'll update you on what's been going on. We've been gathering pumpkins, cushaw, Indian corn and fodder. It will be available starting Monday here at our farm! We have plenty of turnips and mustard greens also. Lots of crafting has been going on around here too. Don't forget that next weekend is the APPLE FESTIVAL in Erwin. WooHoo! I'll be set up with Janet Byrd in the FOOD LION parking lot. Why do we set up in the Food Lion Parking lot you may ask, well, let me tell you. 100% of the money that is taken in from renting spaces is donated to the Children's Miracle Network. We think that's great and love the fact we know that money is going to a GREAT organization. So with that being said, we'll have plenty of Fried Apple Pies, Sourdough Bread, Amish Friendship Breads, Hand painted Gourd Birdhouse, and many, many more handcrafted items. Today I'm baking and getting ready for the Johnson City Farmers Market. I'll have Banana and Banana Walnut Bread, Pumpkin and Pumpkin Pecan Bread, Pumpkin Rolls, Chocolate Rolls(which are like pumpkin rolls, but they are chocolate cake instead...yummy!) We'll also have turnips and mustard greens, Indian Corn, Ornamental Gourds, Guinea Beans, Pie Pumpkins, Carving Pumpkins and Janet will be there with Sourdough Bread. Come out and see what you can find. There are lots of great vendors and you really can find just about anything that you're looking for.

We got some GREAT rain last night. Seems like a good morning to drive to Knoxville to get pumpkin seeds. 🚜🎃

07/29/2013

We spent Sunday resting (for a change) and scouting out the green, wide leafed, curly plants that will soon be...Pumpkins! While drinking coffee on the porch this morning, I have to admit that the small chill in the air made me excited for the season to come. Fall has always been my favorite time of year. The beautiful colors, the break from the exhausting heat, and it seems to me there is a crisp, freshness to the air that only comes once a year. If the Good Lord's willing, we'll have: Field Pumpkins for carving and decorating, Beautiful White Lumina Pumpkins, Atlantic Giants (that I hope to see reach several hundred pounds, maybe or maybe not), Jarrahdale Pumpkins that are a lovely slate blue color, Old Fashioned Candy Roasters (which is Aunt Vicky and Uncle Ricky's Favorite), Cushaws, Gourds Galore and plenty of small pumpkins and gourds for decorating. The indian corn is looking quite nice which it's dark, purple stalk also. Excited, so excited for the things to come! But for now we'll be happy and thankful to continue to pick Squash, Zucchini, Tomatoes and Okra. :) Have a wonderful day and remember Fall is on it's way!

Located at the Greene County Fairgrounds @ The Livestock Pavilion.

07/06/2013

We had a wonderful day at The Greeneville Farmers Market. The Cornbread was a great seller! We picked our first 3 bushels of Blue Lakes today and the first 1/2 bushel of okra, which I'm getting ready to deliver all of. More to come...if your wanting cabbage for Kraut or Chow Chow, now is the time to let me know. We'll be glad to meet you or you can order and I'll have it at The Farmers Market...We love our job! Feeling very thankful and blessed.

07/05/2013

Even though the weather hasn't been very cooperative, tomorrow morning we will be at The Greeneville Farmer's Market with plenty of Yellow Summer Squash and Cabbage. I'll have a few recipes to share with you also. We're trying something new this weekend, I'll have CORNBREAD! Old Fashioned Buttermilk Cornbread, Bacon- Cheddar Cornbread and Jalapeno-Cheddar Cornbread all baked in a well seasoned cast iron skillet (it was my Mama's). We'll also have Buckeyes (aka Peanut Butter Balls), Jams and Jellies and the Gourd Birdhouses(these have been going great for "Secret Pal" gifts) that we grow and hand paint here on the farm. Stop by THE GREENEVILLE FARMER'S MARKET from 8am- 1pm (or sell out) Visit with all the vendors, grab you some squash and a recipe for Squash Casserole or a head of Cabbage and cook up some Cabbage Rolls, either will go great with a cake of cornbread. Come on, get outta the house and take a drive... Look for me under the Livestock Pavilion.

Sheeeeeew! GAP Audit is over, and I do believe that we done GREAT!

06/26/2013

Today we harvested another 120 boxes of cabbage then I (Kelly) was stuck in Knoxville for a Food Safety [email protected] Sysco until after 9pm. Our big GAP audit is Thursday afternoon, so since I got home I've been doing paperwork, paperwork, paperwork! Lots and lots of things to do to get ready for our guest...keep your fingers crossed that we've dotted every "I" and crossed every "T"! Dishes, folding some towel, a hot shower then this farmer is off to bed for a few hours! :)

06/23/2013

What a pleasure it is today to rest, reflect and consider all the blessings that have given to us. Monday starts a new week, and here at Hilton's Farm and Garden we begin harvesting cabbage...roughly 23,000 heads, that's alotta cabbage! Friday a Farm Auditor from Nashville along with the Farm Relations Director and the Farm Safety Director from Florida will arrive to conduct our GAP audit. The past week has been very busy preparing for our guest. Keep us in your thoughts and in your prayers as we work toward our goal...EAT MORE FRESH VEGGIES and THANK A FARMER! Have a beautiful Sunday. :)

02/10/2013

Whew! Yesterday we worked to hard trying to finish up the greenhouse. We rolled in the mud, measured, level, nailed, screwed, cut, anchored and stretched until we couldn't do any of the above any longer. The only thing left is installing the doors. So now we're praying that the wind doesn't tear down all the hard work that we've put into this project.

Two little piggies joined us on our farm this weekend. Thanks Allen for finding them and getting them for us! Not many women would be as tickled with a guy buying her a couple of pigs, as much as I am. Thanks Babe!. ~Kelly~
