I bought sandwich tomatoes from the grocery store about a week ago and noticed this morning they were starting to turn. I figured I’d freeze them to can later with my garden tomatoes.

But when I opened the package, something looked off. The inside was veiny and strange, almost wormy. I sliced into one of them and found HUNDREDS of tiny sprouts growing INSIDE the tomato itself.

This can happen when produce is bred and pushed for long shelf life, rapid growth, and appearance over everything else. And my first thought was to educate my kids and my second was to educate you.

We’ve normalized food that travels thousands of miles, is engineered for profit and convenience, and is expected to look “perfect” at all times, but we rarely stop to ask what we’re actually eating anymore.

And maybe the bigger issue isn’t just physical health. Maybe it’s psychological too. We’ve become so disconnected from real food that most people have never even seen what naturally grown produce looks like, smells like, or tastes like.

This is exactly why knowing where your food comes from matters. Why local farms matter. Why gardens matter. Why teaching our kids how food is grown matters.

Food shouldn’t just survive the supply chain. It should nourish people.

I’ll take the weird-shaped garden tomato over the chemically polished “perfect” one any day.

We’ve talked a lot recently and had several inquiries from local customers about adding a little farm stand at the end of our driveway. While we still love the idea, the truth is that theft has unfortunately become a real issue for a lot of small local stands lately.

As a small family business, every handmade item matters to us. So for now, we’ll continue offering porch pickups and preorder meets instead of a self-serve stand.

In an effort to be fully transparent with y’all, this setup helps us keep prices fair, reduce waste, and make sure your order is fresh and ready when you arrive. 🤍

Thank y’all for continuing to support our little farmstead the honest way. We appreciate this community more than you know.

We’re back at The Find Vintage Warehouse of Jonesborough this morning after a few days away enjoying family time at Folly Beach ☀️

To say thank you, we’re doing a quick little flash sale on sourdough hamburger buns this weekend:

🍔 6 buns for $5 🍔

Because we all know Memorial Day grilling is happening whether the weather cooperates or not. 😂

We’ve also got fresh bread stocked back up and plenty of BBQ rubs ready to go for the weekend.

Come by early before everything gets picked over. Y’all know how fast fresh bread disappears around here. 🌾🍞

One thing we’ll never take for granted is the opportunity to give back to the same community that continues to support our little farmstead dream. ❤️

This week, we had the honor of donating cookies for Teacher Appreciation Week because teachers deserve to be celebrated big. Between the long days, endless patience, and the love they pour into our kids and community, a few boxes of cookies hardly feels like enough.

From our family at 5T Farmstead, thank you for supporting local businesses like ours so we can turn around and bless others when we can. Whether you’ve bought a loaf of bread, some canned goods, or shared one of our posts, you’re part of it too.

We’re just so grateful the Lord allows us to use our little farm to bless others when we can. 🤍

Attention valued bread customers:

Your local sourdough lady has officially escaped the homestead and traded flour dust for sandy toes, salty air, shrimp and grits, and a much needed Charleston getaway with her favorite farmhand. 🤍

That means no bread, cinnamon rolls, or baked goods at the shop this weekend. The baker has clocked out. 😂

The cows and chickens still expect us back on the farm next week, but for now we’re soaking up some rest, good food, sunshine, and letting someone else take over the cooking for a few days.

We’ll see y’all next week slightly sunburnt, overly caffeinated, rested, recharged, and ready to bake again. 🫶

I wanted a garden.
I woke up to a garden.
And that’s on having a good husband that makes my dreams come true. 🩷🌱

Behind every sunset, pasture, farm chore, fresh loaf, and early morning calf check is a mama just trying to build something meaningful for her family. 🤍

This little business was built right in the middle of motherhood. Between collecting eggs, bottle-feeding calves, flour-covered counters, muddy boots, and very little sleep, somehow the Lord has continued to provide every step of the way. I’ll always be thankful for every person who supports not just what we make, but the family behind it too.

Motherhood can be exhausting, messy, loud, and overwhelming sometimes, but it is still the greatest blessing I’ve ever been given.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas loving their people well every single day. 🌾 You are seen, loved, and much appreciated.
