With summer behind us once more, our hearts are looking forward to the upcoming ‘ber months. Crisp air in the mornings, mountain sunsets, the sound of the red-breasted robins hopping in the crunchy cottonwood leaves searching for a plump worm. There’s a lightness to our days now. The hustle and bustle of the holiday season will soon be here but for now, we’re steadily working in the garden; tucking in hundreds of Jeune et Verte squash seeds into the robust soil. The Cinderella pumpkins are propped up, sunning their creamy white sides. The sunflowers are getting taller each week, wide green leaves sprawling from their fuzzy stalks. The farm is alive with quiet growth as the harvest season draws near.

And all the while, we’re here too. Growing in our craft, honing our skills as regenerative gardeners and farm hosts. Each season we seem to find new things that could be done to revitalize this land and creative ways to involve our sweet barnyard animals. We feel ourselves expanding, wanting to do it all quickly but knowing there is value in steady, intentional movements.

The farm is as it has been for years, beautiful rows of French lavender and charming handmade products, but we’ve added bits of new life. Bright, spunky colored flowers– globe shaped zinnias, dinner plate-sized dahlias and papery cupcake white cosmos. Below the Belle Tent, there now lives a thriving vegetable and herb garden. Dusty purple plumes of Thai Basil greet you as you walk towards the vines of pickling cucumbers. Feathery carrot tops tempt our smallest visitors, just waiting to be plucked up and munched.

We’d love to host you if you’re near or send a bit of the farm to you if you’re far!

2023 Update!!

We are over the MOON to invite you to Fork & Plow this year! We’re restoring the way we operate our sweet little farm and can’t wait for y’all to join us. Buckle up, because we’re about to walk you through it!

— After 8 years of beautiful blooms, our lavender fields are ready to be replanted. As we take this next season to gently restore our soil and work on propagating new seedlings, we are turning towards our next chapter here at the farm, and it’s something super near and dear to our heart.

— Our 2023 focus will be on growing incredible organic produce (think blackberry brambles and tall sweet corn stalks) and specialty blooms, like sunflowers, zinnias and dahlias.

— We’re introducing Fork & Plow Farm Friends! It’s a simple farm share program, where community members can purchase a share of what our farm produces and harvest the goods themselves. It’s the next best thing to having your own garden.

— We’ll be working within a farm share model. Instead of u-pick lavender tickets, we’ll be offering a flower share called Bucket of Blooms. Running throughout July, you can reserve a day to come out and harvest your own flowers. These flowers are special— rustic, farm goodness. Dahlias, expansive zinnias, and our signature sunflowers. We’re even growing flowering herbs for a little greenery in your bouquet.

— Our huge offering this year is the garden share. There’s two different options, Luxe or Essential. Both are filled with blooms and produce. Folks participating in the garden shares should look at is as a family opportunity. This is more than a CSA, this is a quintessential summer experience. You’ll be invited to work alongside us in the garden, help plant carrot seedlings, pull a few weeds and harvest your own tomatoes.

— Another fun update is that we’ll be open for shopping, regular hours, June-November on Wednesdays and Saturdays (9-5). A fun day experience would be to book a Bucket of Blooms, order a Lavender Peach Pie and skip on out to enjoy the farm.

We’re really excited as we head into the new chapter of Fork & Plow, and we hope you are too!

We are over the MOON to invite you to Fork & Plow this year! We’re restoring the way we operate our sweet little farm and can’t wait for y’all to join us. Buckle up, because we’re about to walk you through it!

As our family grows and the farm is once again filled with the sounds of little ones, we are reminded of the earlier days when we first acquired the property. Peaches, apples, pears, and cherry trees graced the grounds, and every summer we would plant a thriving vegetable garden. Our children grew up running through the little cornfield, stripping back the green husks for a raw treat. Evenings were spent hunting for eggs in the henhouse and gathering up apples off the ground.

The past few years have made us want to be more connected to our food. We care about what’s served at our table, and we want the best. We want organic, every time. We want unprocessed, sun-soaked goodness. We want fresh, straight from the soil. We want zero sprays. We don’t care about official labels, we want transparency and truth. We want our toes planted in the dirt, we want our muscles to feel that good kind of ache from a good day’s work. We want food available that we want to eat. Over the past year, we found that our community members want the same thing. There is a collective voice raising, demanding better for our tables, our health, and our children.

As the farm moves towards expanding our organically grown agriculture and no-spray flower program, while ever searching for the best way to create community and provide the most beautiful and rustic space for folks to experience our family farm—we’re introducing Fork & Plow Farm Friends! It’s a simple farm share program, where community members can purchase a share of what our farm produces and be a part of the process!

It’s the next best thing to having your own garden.
Fork & Plow will forever be planted in lavender and food. We’ve spent the past eight years enjoying our fragrant purple blooms, and the time has come to start replanting the majority of the fields. While the new seedlings are being carefully tended to, our spirits are being revived and our hearts are singing as spring makes way for new growth and new ideas. Our minds are filled with visions of wide wandering paths, and flowering vignettes. What about a blackberry patch with views of Vail Lake? Rows of sprightly pink dahlias and sun-loving zinnias. Sunflowers but with a few more colors. And there’s still that love of sharing stories and community and munching on good bites and listening to the sound of happy chatter rise above the market lights. This transition of Farm Friends is allowing us to dig deeper. Growing a garden to feed a community is a huge project and we are happy to create an interactive way for folks to join in on the fun. We want you to see where your food comes from, and enjoy being a part of a delightful farming experience.

It’s more than a CSA, it’s a farm-share experience.

You’re sharing in the risks and rewards of farming. The excitement we feel in our bones when we see that first squash blossom— we want you to feel that too. When the aphids are swarming around the kale stalks— you can feel that communal triumph as we release the ladybugs to devour them. You’re actually invited to be a part of this garden adventure. Grab a couple heirloom carrot seedlings from the workshop and spend some time tucking their precious roots into the soil. Sip on an icy lavender lemonade and pull a few tedious weeds away from the dahlia shoots.

This is a story of sowing humble seeds and harvesting sumptuous tomatoes.

Our summer days are spent in overalls and muck boots. We tend to the garden rows and anxiously watch our sunflower babies, willing them to grow into their spectacular bloom each year. Before dusk, you’ll find Buck tossing the hen’s fresh purslane and plucking a few breakfast radishes to dip in bacon butter before supper. In the morning, when the rooster crows, the whole family will be out with cups of muddy coffee and armed with baskets and clippers to take in the day’s bush beans. It’s a terribly wonderful affair full of gains and losses and arms of beautiful flowers and noses smudged with dirt, and watching tiny lettuce leaves pop out of the ground. We’re hoping you’ll lace up and join us in this fight for good food and good community.

Merry Christmas from the Fork & Plow Family!

We are so abundantly grateful for your sweet support this past year, through each season. We are apart of an incredible community and have the best guests and customers— folks who come back again and again, who bring their friends, who write the sweet reviews.

As we close this year, we are over the moon to tiptoe into the next season. Over the first few months of 2022, we’re getting into fresh blooms to remind us that spring is coming. We’ll serve pots of tea and stacks of scones with lemon curd. The farm will be a misty, wintry place full of growth and life, and we can’t wait to welcome you back.

Much Love,
Fork & Plow

boys howdy are we READY for y'all this weekend!

This Saturday, we'll bundle up in flannels and boots and just as the sunlight hits the farmhouse, we'll be up and about getting ready for your visit. The garden will fill first with early morning yoga friends, and when you head up to the bistro tent, all sorts of good smells will be seeping out. The bakery rack will be stacked with pumpkin scones and the chirp of the spiced cider as it perc's away, ready to warm chilly bones. At night, when that October sun sweeps down behind the mountains, the fields will be dotted with folks munching on boxes full of creamy cheese, crisp crackers and cinnamon swirled pumpkin butter. Glasses will clink above the quiet roar of cozy chatter between friends, and through it all we'll hear sweet folky melodies from our local musicians.

And in between the sips and eats, we'll fill our buckets with golden sunflowers. We'll walk through the mucky rows and listen to the buzz of the bees, and feel the pokey stems under our fingertips. We'll feel rooted in the simple magic that comes with this chilly month of October and this tiny family farm.

We'll see you there!

OCTOBER & THE SUNFLOWERS STARTS OCTOBER 16TH, 2021!

Join us at the farm this autumn! When the sunflowers bloom we’ll be open everyday for shopping, u-pick sunflowers, live acoustic music, pumpkin ginger scones and our spicy lavender apple cider. It’s a bonafide Fork & Plow experience and we are stoked to host everyone again!

So, what's the deal?
🌻 Two types of value packed farm passes (Morning and Evening), they each have different offerings—but both include a autumn inspired menu item and a lavender spiced cider.

🌻 Back by popular demand is Yoga with Jenne from Go OM Yoga! We had such an incredible response from her yoga flow sessions this summer, we just had to ask her back! Tickets are available each morning October 16th-23rd. These are separate from Farm Pass tickets.

🌻 We're changing things up this season—1) Growing sunflowers in quadrants, this means instead of one huge field going in all at once, there will be a new section of flowers popping up every other day! This is going to help extend the season a little bit. 2) We shifted our opening day to later in October to help combat aggressive heatwaves. We've got our fingers crossed for deliciously cooler weather and all the spicy autumn vibes.

🌻 How many sunflowers are we talking? About 8,000!

🌻 Leashed puppies are allowed at the farm but are not allowed in the sunflower field.

🌻 Do we need to bring anything?
Ticket holders will receive an email about a week before their visit date with details about proper clothing, footwear and what to bring/what to expect. We typically ask guests to bring a bucket that can hold a few inches of water—this will keep your sunflowers fresh during your visit.

🌻 Read the website thoroughly! We spend a good amount of time updating it with current information and details about upcoming events.

In just a few short months the farm will roll back our big gate. The fields will be a hazy sea of purple and green. and if you listen close-- you'll hear the honeybees happily buzzing away. Parasols and seagrass summer hats will be seen bobbing through the rows, as folks stoop to cut another bloom. Somedays its chilly, and we'll be serving up hot lavender lattes, but mostly the air will be deliciously warm, and hands will wrap around ice cold glasses of tart pink lemonade. The farm tables will be spread with all of the good things. Think a few curated picnic boxes— a grazing box filled with peppered sopressata, velvety gouda and piquant blue cheese. Housemade herbs de Provence lavish crackers, garden berries, and lavender rhubarb jam. A vegetarian sandwich box with a Niçoise styled Pan Bagnat, fresh bread stuffed with artichokes, peppers and shallots and just dripping with local olive oil. Or an Icebox Chicken dinner with sweet corn cake, and a garden potato salad with all the fresh chopped basil and punchy vinegar, and a few French breakfast radishes with smokey bacon butter.

It’s a throwback to old California—weekend picnics out in the field with a botanical popsicle to finish off the afternoon. Each table with an incredible view of the valley and the sweet smell of lavender rolling through the trees. Breathe the fresh mountain air, stretch your legs in the lavender rows, and feast on sumptuous picnic styled fare. It’s all the farm to table goodness we’ve been waiting for, a place to gather joyfully with your people and dig deep into the natural charm of the farm.

These early spring days have been spent working on all sorts of little projects around the farm.

Buck built a beautiful wooden fence around our garden area-- its secluded and cozy, perfect for an intimate ceremony or yoga practice, or even just a quiet cup of morning joe. A few climbing roses and maybe a eucalyptus tree or two will be added to the space as it warms up a bit.

The henhouse was refreshed, a few cobwebs cleaned out, the laying boxes filled with fresh straw-- our new girls have started laying the prettiest brown eggs this week and quite a few of those eggs have ended up poached, laying on a buttered slice of sourdough.

The lemons for this summer's lemonade have ripened and are all ready to be juiced by our kitchen team, we can't wait to sip on tall glasses of that lavender infused goodness.

As the days of March tip toe in, we're watching the whole farm quietly come alive. The apricot tree is bursting with the sweetest scented white blooms. Soon the lavender will turn from its dusty winter gray into a bright hazy green, long wisps reaching out ready to turn purple and the cottonwoods will start whispering again as their branches brush against the sky.

Spring is so close we can taste it, and we couldn't be more excited to share the farm with you again this year. There's new happenings (email friends, check your inbox!) and we brought back old favorites like Icebox Chicken and Pan Bagnats. Its set to be a wonderful season full of fresh flowers, u-pick lavender, picnics, and live music-- and we're just over the moon about it all.

We are over the moon to share that Yoga at the Farm is BACK!
On select Saturdays throughout June and July, we'll be grabbing our mats and heading out into the garden for a little restorative yoga practice.

Set in the secluded garden space overlooking the lavender fields, we’ll breathe in the fresh mountain air, and listen to the breeze whispering through the cottonwoods. Led by Jenne from Go OM Yoga, take part in a 45 minute restorative yoga flow practice. With modifications for every pose, this class is wonderful for all levels. I was quite literally blown away when I saw this for the first time. I, of course, should have known that Fork & Plow Lavender Farm would deliver nothing but amazingly perfect sunflowers, but I wasn’t expecting it to be *this* perfect. 🌻🌻🌻

Sessions are sold out for this year, but if you’d like me to put you on an “OMG yes I want to do a photoshoot in the sunflower field!!!” list, send me a message and I’ll add you! 📫
I’ve been to Fork & Plow Lavender Farm plenty of times, and it’s always beautiful, but this is the first time I’ve been when the lavender is blooming and let me tell you, it’s INCREDIBLE. 🌿💜

I can’t think of any better way to support a small business, social distance in peace and get outside and enjoy the view. 10/10 I always recommend. Like David Rose said, “I’m *obsessed* with this.”
