"Pink Elephant Farm"

The pink elephant farm started with one hen found in our tractor shed.
We named her Henny and from there came Jenny ,Lenny and Penny so she wasn't lonely. Today we have over 80 chickens all sizes and breeds.
I started a chicken rescue for older Hens and unwanted chickens and have been trading homemade jam and pies for unwanted items that I can upcycle and sell to buy feed and lumber and supplies to house the chickens .
The original hen house or coop was made from an old glass rack off a glass truck and repurposed old house trailer siding and scraped windows.
I'm in the process of building a new coop using free twisted lumber and used vinyl siding and old used windows . Most of the scrap I get to upcycle comes from the local salvager ,we refer to this exchange as "Junk for jam".
I also sell eggs ,a combined effort from the hens to pull their weight. I'm always saying to them "I feed you you feed me" My girls are quite large and heavy the eat very well . I get produce , fruits and vegetables year round to mix with their corn ,grains and breads . They also free range daily over acres of woods and fields.
I also heat the coop in winter to keep them warm and they have a run from the coop to the tractor barn so they get out and stretch and dust (clean) themselves .
I love my girls and keep them happy and healthy.
We have a new member to the farm, a female turkey named Bitty. She's 7 weeks old and is growing fast .She will not be butchered and eaten she is a pet our "yard bird guard bird" as my husband calls her. She loves to be held and sleeps in the house in a box on her bed
She will be getting her own shed before winter next to the coop so she won't be lonely.
Well I could go on and on about my girls.
We also have rhubarb and a few strawberries planted which I use for jam .Planted a lot of raspberries but they are still trying to recover from last winter. I also have hundreds of day lilies, lilac bushes and ground cover, snow on the mountain Myrtle
to name a few. Wild blackberries are all around the woods . I also have a large willow tree and start trees with the shoots.
If you're up this way stop
and meet the girls... buy some farm fresh eggs, taste some homemade jam (I only make over 50 varieties try before you buy)..... support the rescue.... thank you!
