Ever heard of a BoDARK tree? Around Texas and the South, this old-fashioned tree has quite the history!

Also known as Osage Orange or Horse Apple, the BoDARK tree was famous for making some of the toughest fence posts around. Folks say the wood is so hard it can dull a chainsaw fast! 🔥🪵

From old homesteads and hedge rows to natural pest myths and firewood stories, this tree has been part of country living for generations. If you grew up in Texas, chances are you’ve seen those big green “brain-looking” fruits laying in the yard. 😄

I put together a full article sharing the history, uses, and fun facts about this legendary Texas tree. 👇

There’s just something about fresh, homemade dinner rolls straight out of the oven… 🧈🍞

Soft, fluffy, and melt-in-your-mouth good — these are the kind of rolls that disappear FAST at the dinner table (especially with a little butter 👀).

If you’ve ever wanted to make your own from scratch, this recipe is simple, beginner-friendly, and perfect for any meal — Sunday dinner, holidays, or just because!

Y’all… I bet most people in Texas have NEVER seen one of these 👀🐾

This is what a **baby armadillo (Texas tank pup)** actually looks like… and it’s wild how different they are from the grown ones!

Soft shell… pink nose… big ears… and those tiny claws already ready to dig 😳

And here’s something crazy — armadillos almost always have **FOUR identical babies at a time** 🤯

If you ever find one, chances are there’s more nearby!

I put together a full post with photos + facts + what to do if you find one on your homestead 👇

🐻 He’s baaaack… and this time, East Texas is paying attention!

A black bear has been spotted again in Anderson & Cherokee Counties—and may be the first to **overwinter here in over 50 years** 😳🌲

Now before you panic… this is actually a sign of a **healthy, recovering ecosystem**. But it DOES mean us homesteaders need to stay sharp.

👉 Secure your feed
👉 Protect your chickens
👉 Don’t leave food out
👉 Stay aware, not scared

This young bear is still shy (good news), but once they find easy food… they remember it.

I put together a full guide on what this means for folks like us in East Texas https://texashomesteader.com/black-bears-in-east-texas/

Living with the land means sometimes sharing it too… even with the big ones 🐻
