SO FARMS A local chicken farmer located in albany ohio to supply chicken eggs to the public. we sell both eggs for consumption, as well as hatching eggs available.

We also have chicken hatchlings during spring-fall time. We also have pigs here on the farm

Verified we are NPIP and AI CLEAN! We can now sell and ship across state lines for hatching eggs! This is important if your flock is already certified. It keeps you certified and prevents your birds from being at risk.!

Price for hatching eggs are as follows.

Barnyard mix/ hens choice ayami rooster RIR, olive egger and black s*x link hens - $8

Black copper marans -$30 a dozen.

Good afternoon family! Our flock was tested today for avarian flu, and Influenza ( this is called NPIP and AI clean ) through the department of agriculture in Ohio. This means that mice the testing comes back and all is good, we can sell across state lines and sell hatching eggs at events. This also means that if your current flock is NPIP certified, it will not jeopardize your certification.

The eggs prices will go up for both hatching and edible eggs by 50c. This is because this certification cost 100 dollars to do each year.
Therefor starting the first of the month eggs are 4 dollars a dozen for edible and 8 for hatching eggs on barnyard mix ( ayami cemani x Rhode Island Red) and 35 a dozen for French black copper marans!

So our ayami female was an escape artist. And today , we do believe she escapeed from the run for the last time. I was inside the coops, all chickens were locked outside the coop so I could deep clean the coop, to include power wash it out and wipe the walls. Well myself and Odessa had put her back in easily 4 times already. She’s the only one that would get out.

I was in the coop, cleaning of course and heard the blue healer barking like crazy, I see a bunch of hens jump to the fence and I heard what I now know was the warning rooster squawk. There was feathers all around, in two different areas, no blood, no body. We believe a hawk got her. Gonna miss my shoulder friend. 😭

Here we have a dozen of our farm eggs. These are the colors we currently have! ( not that it changes the taste of the eggs) the dark eggs are from the black copper marans that started laying this month. As they age, they may become even darker! Currently I am selling them with our breakfast eggs untill I’m sure the rooster is getting the job done to begin to incubate them and here the big news

I GOT THE CALL FOR NPIP AND CLEAN testing today. They will be here in the 18th to do a blood sample of the birds to test for disease ( I’m not worried in the slightest as this flocks been with us for over a year now with only loosing 4 due to heat exhaustion from refused to get out of the nesting boxes .)

Stay tuned as I’ll soon be able to ship eggs again and I can promise what your getting is tested and clean!

After 3 weeks of on her own so we could keep an eye on her, and giving her multiple daily treatments of healing ointment, our only ayami hen is back in with the flock and defending what was once her stomping grounds climbing back to the top of the pecking order. She was scalped by another leaving a flop of skin and hair, with a lot of blood and damaged skin on her neck. You can see here it has healed, the flop is still attached untill it begins to die so that I can snip off the old skin, but she is now the most loving hen we have. She’ll fall asleep in your arms and run to your side once you’re in the coop for any reason.

The black coppers and the 1 ayami cemani hen have began to lay! As you can see these 2 eggs , however the ayami has been laying for about 2 weeks. Where as this is the first black copper egg and they are the same size! The darkness of the black copper egg is a good starting point for a breeding program, stay tuned as I have a new setup incoming to separate the black copper from the large flock!
