It’s almost fair time kids have dedicated their time money , and work with these animals day in and day out they’ve had ups they’ve had downs some exhibitors may not be able to show their animal due to being underweight or overweight
Which is no fault of the exhibitor. These conditions can occur for many reasons.

We want to take a moment, not only to honor the time, the effort, the money, the heart, but also the the skill and the drive that it takes to be willing to take an animal to the fair after you have raised it from a small animal and to sell it at market. Not everyone’s able to do this.

Good luck to all exhibitors and their upcoming endeavors, here at SO farms, we wish you the best of luck from one farm family, to another.

Quail have begun to hatch!

Alright. I’ve had people ask. And then walk away from buying eggs from us.

We charge 3 dollars a dozen. 3 bucks. Let me explain something to you. Yes you can buy a dozen of eggs at the store for Less than 2 dollars. Ability you can. Those are also caged, fed a very strict diet without nutrition ( they only get layer feed) and they are not the healthiest birds. ) the equivalent eggs in store to ours, are the uncaged eggs, which are 5-6 dollars a dozen in store.

A 50lb bag of layer feed is 16$ for 50 pounds.
A 50lb bag of scratch grain is 14$
A 50lb bag of kernel corn is like 13$
A 2lb bag of mixed herbs is 11

This will last 1 week on the farm to collect 3 dozen eggs a day. Let’s do the math

It cost 55 a week to feed
I get 18 dozen eggs a week, that is 54 a week for all the eggs we collect.

That means I’m breaking even on feed cost if I sell every egg I collect ( I don’t , because we keep eggs for ourselves also ).

You’re paying for quality. I also pay 100 dollars a year for NPIP certification to show my birds are healthy, and disease free.

I don’t do this to make money. I do this to supply the community with farm raised, uncaged eggs.
Our birds eggs taste so much better then store bought.

Support your local provider. It’s worth it, believe me.

Because of the lack of rain, I’ve had to fill this barrel for the pigs many times these last few weeks. I went on a hunt from spare parts from all the water supply systems and found a way to make an inlet to fill this system without much issue. Now it just has a bull head fitting, matted to an adapter to allow a water hose to fill!
