🐔💔 MOTHER CLUCKER SILKIES — A HARD DECISION FOR A GOOD REASON 💔🐔
Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be listing my MOTTLED project pen for sale.
This is honestly one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make with my breeding program. I’ve put so much time, money, studying, driving, planning, dedication, and most importantly LOVE into this pen and the work behind it.
The pen will include:
🐓 1 Black rooster — split to Chocolate & split to Mottled
🐔 2 Chocolate hens — split to Mottled
🐔 1 Mauve Naked Neck Silkie hen — split to Mottled
🐥 1 Chocolate Mottled grow-out — and honestly, this one is looking pretty boyish to me because of the redness coming in around the comb area 👀
There is a LOT of history behind this project.
This boy originally came from High Rock Chicks, and my lovely friend Karen, High Rock Chicks, and I all put money together to have around 10 or so of the boys tested.
We already knew they were split to Mottled, but we needed to find out which boys were also split to Chocolate. Once we had the testing done, my friend got her pick, and I got the next pick.
And let me tell you… these boys are BEAUTIFUL, and the girls are absolutely STUNNING. 😍❤️
I was so excited about what I had because I knew exactly where I wanted to take this project.
My ultimate goal was to work toward that beautiful mulberry-colored comb with dark skin, using a double-split-to-split breeding — a rooster split to Chocolate and Mottled over girls split to Mottled.
I had a vision for this project, and I had put so much into getting it to this point. I was just getting it going, and there was still so much I wanted to accomplish with these birds.
That's what makes letting this pen go so difficult. 😭❤️
This isn't just a group of chickens I decided I didn't want anymore.
This pen represents money invested, birds tested, hours of driving, research, studying genetics, planning pairings, and countless hours of work.
I truly hope whoever ends up with this group continues the work.
I hope they see what I saw in these birds. I hope they understand the potential sitting in this pen and take the project even further than I was able to. ❤️
And I want to make something very clear:
Mother Clucker Silkies is NOT closing. 🐔❤️
I will still be here. I’m simply going to be focusing on my three truest passions — the lines that I have put the most love, time, money, dedication, hours of driving, and studying into.
🍫 Chocolate Silkies
💜 Mauve Silkies
🎨 Chocolate Paint Silkies
Those three lines are here to stay. That's for certain. ❤️
By downsizing some of my other projects, I’ll actually be able to focus MORE on these three lines without having so many different projects pulling my attention in different directions.
I have two duplexes available for my breeding program. My plan is to use two pens for Chocolate Paint, with the other two available pens dedicated to my Chocolate and Mauve Silkie lines.
I will still have Naked Necks, just not as many as I have had before — and honestly, that's okay. ❤️
I’m happy knowing I still have these lines that I can hold onto and continue putting my heart into.
There is also a possibility that I may be listing one of my Paint lines, but I need to talk to a friend first because they have already expressed interest in claiming it. I want to give them as much time as they need, but I also need to make absolutely sure they are certain before I make any decision to list that line publicly.
The reason I’m making these changes is because we really need a new vehicle. 🚗💔
Our current vehicle is starting to fall apart, and I honestly don't know how much longer it's going to make it. I'm trying to scrape together everything I possibly can to help us get into something reliable.
I don't know exactly how everything is going to work out yet.
Honestly, I'm scared.
But I'm trying.
I'm trying to make the best decisions I can with what I have, even when those decisions hurt.
I just pray we can figure out what to do. 🙏
And I hope that whoever gets this Mottled pen understands that they aren't just buying a group of chickens.
They're getting a project that I poured my heart into. ❤️
They're getting the result of friends coming together, investing in testing, selecting beautiful birds, researching genetics, and working toward a very specific goal.
I had this project going, and I truly hope someone picks it up and keeps going where I left off.
🐔✨ Sometimes you have to let go of a piece of the dream to protect the parts of the dream that mean the most. ✨🐔
Thank you to everyone who has supported Mother Clucker Silkies, followed my projects, purchased birds, shared my posts, or simply cheered me on.
And a special thank you to Karen and High Rock Chicks for being part of the beginning of this project and helping make the testing possible. ❤️
I appreciate you all more than you know. 🥹❤️
More pictures and details of the MOTTLED project pen will be coming soon.
Please share with anyone who might be interested. 🐔❤️
