Had my post op check up yesterday morning. Everything is healing great and the bones are lined up. I get to wear a cast for the next 4 weeks. However with the severity of my injury and my age, the doctor said it will take about 12 weeks for my bones to completely heal. I'm grounded from the saddle until November the earliest as of now.

Thanks to this injury, I am done training new horses for the 2020 season. However, if all goes well, you may see a familiar face on this page come mid November..........

Cherokee's first week of bootcamp has been completed. She now knows the following exercises:

Yield the Hindquarters Stage 1&2
Yield the Forequaters
Lunging for Respect Stage 1&2
Sending exercise
Turn and Go
Flexing the head and neck stage 1&2
Jeffrey's Method
Circle driving
Backing Stage 2
Desensitizing to lead rope
Desensitizing to stick and string
Desensitizing to whipping the ground 360
Trailer loading

If I was to grade her I would give her overall a B-. Some exercises she's at a C- and some she's at a B+. She's 1/4 draft therefore a bit on the lazier side and will give minimal effort on exercises that require moving her feet, but is happy to standstill and be desensitized.

Tomorrow plan is to review all exercises. Sunday she will get a day to rest, and Monday will be her first saddling. If all goes well, I should have first ride in at the end of next week.

I was able to have a follow up outing with good ole Ty and Razz. Ty went out on his very first trail ride ever, and did extremely well! Razz and Ty both dealt with mountainous terrain, meadows, wooden land, a wooden bridge, cows, skittish calves, and had to zigzag carefully through a down tree top in the path. Afterwards both boys gave some pony rides to the kids. Needless to say the boys were worn out 🐎😴💤

Our Story

Rose Creek Riding Center, LLC is owned and operated by Stephanie Hamilton in Albright, WV. Stephanie is a 2013 WVU graduate who majored in Animal and Nutritional Sciences with an Equine Management Minor. She also earned her CHA Western Riding Instructor Certification. Rose Creek Riding Center, LLC is a small business that offers training for horses following the Clinton Anderson’s Method. Established in September 2014, Rose Creek Riding Center, LLC is a small business operated by a busy mother of two beautiful girls under the age of 6. Please be patient as improvements are being made at our facility.

At this time Rose Creek Riding Center, LLC is not offering any riding lessons. This is due to the fact that our two lessons horses are not longer fit for lessons. Storm has been retired at the good old age of 28 years old, and can no longer keep up with the demanding workload from lessons. Mist has been forced out of lessons due to developing Moon Blindness and is going blind in her right eye. If anyone is interested in lessons, feel free to contact me on this page or email at [email protected] and I can direct you to riding instructors in the area.
