Found our queen today and got her marked. She's looking good and laying well. Now just waiting on the girls to get everything fully built up and get some honey going. 😁

We "upgraded" to a bottom entrance bottom board the other day and the girls were enjoying the safety and comfort of it last night during a bit of a light rain storm. They acclimated pretty quickly to it, too. Hopefully, it'll help out during "hornet robbing" season in August.

This past winter hit hard for bee colonies across the country and looks like they may finally know what helped cause the death of over 1.1M colonies nationwide (about 68% of all managed hives). Viral infection from mitricide resistant varroa mites. Hopefully, the community can bounce back and we can figure out a way to fight this issue that doesn't have future unforeseen repercussions. 🤞

Scientists at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) are helping American beekeepers solve the mystery behind a widespread honey bee colony collapse and its debilitating effects on U.S. agriculture.
