Dustbunnies and Dog Hair is an animal sanctuary/ hobby farm. We Dustbunnies and Dog Hair is an animal sanctuary/ hobby farm.
We currently have alpacas, llamas, donkeys, mules, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, and of course dogs. We began by taking in unwanted, or hard to adopt dogs, that had medical needs. Then we started taking in larger animals that were in the same situation. We have a small mobile farm/petting zoo that we use to help offset the medical needs of the sanctuary animals. Pics from yesterday.
Our good bye post for the year. Remembering the animals we lost this year.
Not pictured: 2 piglets and 2 alpaca crias
Benson today. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRbL41xx/
New alpaca boy. Picked him up yesterday. Benson is under the care of the vets at Auburn for now.
Christmas morning chores
Possibly having a farm work day Saturday 12-31 or maybe Friday 12-30. Just doing some fencing and setting up a hot wire. Nothing terrible. But can use extra hands.
For those interested we will have a small number of desk calendars this year. The price for the wall style is too high for small numbers and we have not sold enough in the past to justify it. If you are interested let me know.
Monday we are taking in another rescue alpaca. This boy has a bad tooth abscess that is coming out the bottom of his jaw. His current owners are sending him to us. They are kinda wet behind the ears so we are headed to get Benson Monday. Tuesday he goes to the vet. That bill might be as much as $2k, IF he can be healed.
Matthew wrangling half frozen hoses after silly pig dumped his water. In between spreading straw for the animals.
Ticked off Baxter. He was shivering so I put a coat on him. Boy what a fight.
Vet run today.
Olaf was castrated, and is doing well.
Cappy had a high parasite count and was treated.
Kudzu had a high parasite count and was treated.
Male piglet was castrated and treated for mites.
Female piglet was treated for mites.
All are relaxing on the trailer after the crazy ride.
Uno was dropped off for his cryptoid surgery. Will have surgery tomorrow and probably be released Thursday if all is going well.
Tomorrow I will be fixing the "care areas" for the weather predicted Thursday night. More bedding, fix a few bad spots, and hook up heaters that still work.
We lost General Saturday morning. He had a bad heart and was not in the best health but he had a good life.
Trump did not make it till I got down there. The resident on duty texted me just after 3am to tell me he had passed away.
Trump This had just turned 13 on the 13th. The vet had him on meds so he was comfortable. We have submitted for necropsy due to the rapid onset of symptoms and have checked the rest of the herd that lived with him. We do have some test results that are pending.
He was the best boy ever. Sweet, good at his job, and a joy to have around. His presence will be greatly missed around here.
Well we just got news on Trump this. His heart is failing. Not sure at this time the cause. I will be going to Auburn first thing in the morning to euthanize him before he gets worse. And will post his pictures and memorial when I get home.
Trump This diagnostics alone are going to be another $2k at this time. We can really use the aid. He is having radiographs and CSF today to try to determine what is wrong.
He had a seizure yesterday morning and cannot regulate his blood glucose. He also seems to be having a systematic response to a possible infection. We hope to know more after today.

So I got the dogs, sheep, goats, donkeys, and minis post done. Still have to do the horses, alpacas, llamas, and pigs. Whee.
I decided instead of doing individual post on each animal to do them in these batches. Hope everyone enjoys meeting our motley crew.
Current mini horses. Missing one of Jubilee but will get her too.
Current sheep. I love my sheep, except shearing time. Otherwise they are fun =p
Current goats at the crazy house =p
December 2022
Current donkeys
December 2022 Doggies post
These are the dogs who currently live here =p
Good thing I cancelled the event tomorrow. Just got called into work. No way I could do it now.
Anyone interested (although local is easier) I am offering to run fecals on farm animals. I use flotation and MacMasters methods. Experienced in identifying strongyles, roundworms, whipworms, tapes, and coccidias. Extensive experience in goats, sheep, alpacas, llamas, cattle, equines and pigs.
Can do those sent in by mail, just costs the sender more.
6 each sample. Results can be sent via email, text or messenger.
With the cost of feed troughs through the roof, we are making some.
Even though I felt like rewarmed poo, we managed to get the girls moved to the uphill lot. Everything was wet, so that was fun. Did not see to have any damage from the storms.
Made appt for the terrible terrier to be neutered. And refilled doggie meds.
That was it for the day =p
I have had folks interested in contributing to the care of the animals. Here is the information and how to do so.

Reptiles all had their soak, cages cleaned and food n water bowls cleaned. Still some shed in the snake area. Will completely redo his bedding next week.
And the streak continues. Went to do a lameness exam on Willow. Diagnosis navicular, moderate to severe. We are now doing pain and inflammatory management and research to help her. But no trail horse duties for he for now.
Huckleberry is a frustrated boy. Henry is ignoring his advances πππ
Precious, Banner, Peanut.

Alpaca spam π€£π€£π€£
Got home this evening after taking in a new pupper and was getting her settled in. M was making food when we were brought one of the piglets. Not sure what happened to her today, but she is now in the living room, has been bathed, under heat, dry, and had some special nutrition. *sigh* Looks like maybe vet in the am, depending.
THe week after Thanksgiving we will be doing as much clean up as possible. Using the atv and tractor and buckets to clean up poo. We will decorate the picture area. SO any time that week during the day, come out and help. I am working 12 hour shifts Monday and Tuesday so will not be able to do much. Wed and Thursday are normal nights. Then Friday I will do everything I can to be ready for Saturday open house.
Well... so my truck broke thanks to Sunny King not telling me about a problem it had. There goes over 2k to fix. With all the other losses and bills this year, that (plus the other 2 emergencies) took what little cushion I had created toward fixing the van and finalizing the 401c. None of the fundraisers did more than get feed for a week. I have 2 folks who have been invaulable in helping me keep things going. I have 2 FFA families that will be here anytime they can. Otherwise, I have created events for volunteering, offered gofundme and shirt sales for fundraising, sold fiber, sold animals, and done everything I can do.
The 89 Beast truck is still sitting in the front yard since folks I have reached out to fix do not show, or reply when asked, or return calls.
And folks wonder why I am defeated. No I am not in a good mood or place atm, but as usual I will get by. Some days it just gets to you. So please do not tell me to do this, or do that. Trust me I have.

While Wilbur does not have any external injuries, he is completely out of sorts today. We will keep monitoring him.
Piggies playing. I used the hose to keep them busy when I was working in their area.
Upset cow. I went in and put some feed down or her and she stopped circling and let me pet her.
Crimson figures out how to be off the trailer... With help. She is blind. We saw cataracts in both eyes.
At the vet getting ready to unload the cow. Remeber she is blind and has not been off the farm in almost a year. Matthew was manning the door and J was in the trailer. The rest of us were out of the way just in case she freaked.
Val had her first kid. Out first goat baby. Think she has another one in there so out waiting with her.
This is insane. Coming across the driveway and through the fields. Not coming from our place
Peanut deciding after about 20 minutes of racing around, to go through the gate where the others were. He proceeded to race around another while.
