THE FINAL 3! 🙌🏼

The last 3 peafowl eggs went into lockdown this morning! All 3 showed signs of life when I candled them before locking down, so hopefully in the next few days we will have our last chicks of the season. I won’t lie, I am ready to wrap up these incubators for the year 🙃 I am tiredddd lol

For those asking about the incubators I use ⬇️ these have been my FAVORITE so far. They maintain temp and humidity really well, have automatic turners and clean pretty easy. They are on sale right now too!

Midday snooze 😴

The oldest batch of chicks just hit 6 weeks old. They are going through lots of changes. Molting and new feather grow makes them look like scraggly little birds. They are getting their top knots as I call them.

This fella is an India blue split purple split black shoulder male. I have a few of these guys. They will be available later in the year/early spring.

My favorite part of our whole farm ❤️

This pond brings me so much joy. Except when I’m weedeating it, then it just makes me angry 🤣

A couple of years ago it started growing aquatic grass around the edges. It’s rooted and grows up to the surface. It only grows from the bank out to about 15’ or so. The center of the pond and deeper parts don’t grow anything. We have 2 huge grass carp and I added 12 smaller ones this spring. It does seem like that helped some compared to last year but it’s still a nuisance. You can’t fish or swim.

Any recommendations on how to remove/kill it? I need something fish and waterfowl safe. The pond is roughly just over acre.

Yesterday we moved these guys to this spot and they’ve already got the grass matted down and mud started 🙃

At night they are locked up in this moveable pen, but during the day they have a run with a kid pool to enjoy. There are far too many predators around to leave them out at night, so this is what works for us.

They are growing so fast and starting to feather out. It’s hard to believe they were just hatched a little over a month ago! 🫣

Two freshly hatched peachicks! 🦚

3 eggs went into lockdown. I had my doubts on one of them and I was right. I could tell it was fully formed and but no movement when candled before lockdown. It unfortunately never hatched. I opened it to have a look and it was fully formed, but not alive. Sometimes it happens.

But I do have 2 seemingly healthy chicks! 3 more eggs in the incubator and 3 still under the peahen and hatching season is finished! 🙌🏼 I’ve lost count on how many chicks I’m currently brooding, but I think it’s around 20-25 🙃

Last night we got home late. I came in the living room and flipped on the light. Counted the chicks and one was missing!...

Last night we got home late. I came in the living room and flipped on the light. Counted the chicks and one was missing! 😳 Oh no..

So I listen for it to be chirping. Normally if they are upset they have a very specific noise they make. I’m not hearing anything. So I start looking in the floor, nothing. I’m starting to panic a little now! It probably got cold and died 😣

Finally, I notice it in the chair at the dining table. Not upset, not looking cold, not distressed in any way. Just enjoying the nice soft chair cushion 🤣

I guess that’s my sign they are ready to go out to the barn brooder! I normally keep them in the house for the first 5-7 days so I can monitor everyone closely. I won’t lie, I got a little lazy and they’ve been in here for almost 9 days now lol I know what I’ll be doing today.
