We extend a big congratulations to three recipients of the Henry C. Gardiner Scholarship Award who, along with 21 other students, were awarded $100,000 from the Colvin Scholarship Fund. Drew Mickey, Taylorville, Illinois (HCGSA 2026), Lyle Perrier, Eureka, Kansas (HCGSA 2026), and Chesney Effling, Highmore, South Dakota (HCGSA 2022) were awarded $6,000, $2,500 and $5,000, respectively. It is thrilling to see your passion for our industry continue to grow and be recognized. Congratulations!

🍂 GAR 22ND ANNUAL PRODUCTION SALE 🍂

Our 2026 Fall Production Sale offering is a continuation of our decades of focus on multi-trait excellence. The sale will offer 415 bulls: 184 18-month-olds and 231 14-month-olds. The female portion of the sale will feature 61 young, bred cows and 52 bred heifers. The first two groups are 23 GAR registered cows selling in groups. We’ll wrap up the fall sale offering with 640 GeneMax tested, GAR-influenced, bred females. We are proud of these cattle. They have the genetic ability to change populations of cattle and make them better.

Congratulations to the 2026 Beef Empire Days Carcass Winners!

Fireball, Fireproof, Home Town , Acceleration and Transcendent were well represented during the 2026 Beef Empire Days live and carcass competition.
The overall winner of the 2026 Beef Empire Days winning the Earl C. Brookover award went to long-time GAR customer Margie Mayer, Mayer Legacy LLC, Guymon, Oklahoma, with the composite placing in both the Live & Carcass contest. This 1640-pound steer exhibited a low Prime, YG 3.1, with his 16.89" RE with .60" backfat. He was fed at Triangle H Feedyard.

The overall Reserve Champion steer from JO Cattle Company, Holcomb, Kansas, is another multi-decade customer. Their steer fed at Hy-Plains Feedyard also placed in both the Live & Carcass show. This 1600-pound steer had a quality grade of low Prime, YG 2.6 with his 16.0" RE and .36 backfat.

Congratulations to Brian Walt, W6 Cattle, Collyer, Kansas, for overall Live & Carcass Heifer Champion. This 1480 # Home Town daughter recorded a Prime Plus quality grade, YG 1.9 with her 18.51" RE and .46" backfat. Brian also had the Champion Steer Carcass with a steer sired by Acceleration out of a Home Town cow. This 1510 # steer graded Prime Average, YG 2.8, with a 17.39 RE, and .56" backfat. The Brian Walt cattle were fed at Beef Belt LLC.

Also, congratulations to Mark and Mary Kaltenbach, Ashland, and Smith Taylor Partners, of Arkansas, who also recorded top 10 finishes with their GAR-sired cattle. These beef producers have invested in value added genetics for decades with Gardiner Angus Ranch.

They strive toward Making Beef Better by selecting for multi-trait excellence to continue genetic progress through disciplined decisions. The Beef Empire Days Live & Carcass Competition is an excellent example of continued progress made with every generation of genetic excellence. There were 129 steers and 69 heifers entered in this year’s competition.

A big congratulations to two previous recipients of the Henry C. Gardiner Scholarship—Kenedy DeVoe, Justin, Texas (2025-2026 recipient) and Audrey Tarochione, London Mills, Illinois (2023-2024 recipient). They were awarded the 2026 Baker/Cundiff Scholarship during the 58th Annual Beef Improvement Federation Research Symposium and Convention. Kenedy was also a recipient of the 2026 BIF Roy A. Wallace Scholarship which Audrey was awarded in 2024. Both are outstanding choices whose enthusiasm and knowledge will take them far in our industry.

We have had the privilege to welcome BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding & Educational Center to Gardiner Angus Ranch this week. Bravehearts offers mental health and wellness services for military veterans. The group joined us for cutting horse demonstration and practice, then on to the pastures to roundup some cows. Thanks to Meggan Hill-McQueeney for organizing the trip and all the veterans that joined us for an amazing couple of days! We are grateful for your service to our nation.

The evening before our 47th Annual Production Sale in April, several Select Sires staff members joined us to pay tribute to Brian House of Select Sires Beef. After 33 years with Select Sires, Brian retired earlier this year. We thank Brian for all his dedicated service and friendship. You're always welcome in Ashland any time the fish aren't biting, Brian!

11TH ANNUAL MEATING DEMAND BULL SALE RESULTS

Three auctions, from January to May, we have set new records at Gardiner Angus Ranch. We are immensely grateful and humbled by the loyalty of our customer base and many new customers joining us for the very first time. We are also thankful for each call from new customers seeking more information to add value and quality. The success stories to be told are those of our customers choosing to invest resources to improve the quality and value of the cattle and beef leaving their operations destined for the food supply.

We want to extend both gratitude and congratulations to Frank VanderSloot and the entire Riverbend Ranch team for making one of the boldest moves in the Angus seedstock business by investing $1,050,000 in 49% of GAR Market Maker. Market Maker is a young sire destined to change populations of beef cattle. This son of B&B Preeminent out of GAR Kansas N762, to date, is the culmination of what we can achieve with a commitment to multi-trait discipline over decades.
