Pigs!!! What cuties, and they are already so friendly. These are LandraceXDurocs. Long, muscular bodies is the goal. They are expected to be heavyweights by processing day. They will be all grown up, with a date ready in September. We are looking to sell ONE pig, at a live price. Can do whole or halves, but buyer of a single half is responsible to find somebody for the other. Buyer(s) are responsible for the processing price (predicted at $250). A non-refundable deposit (portion) is required so it doesn't hurt us so much to find somebody else in a hurry, if somebody doesn't commit. We feed non-GMO, locally sourced grain from Woods. Pigs are dewormed with natural ingredient dewormer. PM for more info.

Then & Now

Last year we were surprised with a liter of Gold Tipped Steels. A color not recognized by the NZ breed standard, but can still run through purebred stock. Here is a reference from when that batch of kits was 2 weeks old, to a doe now, of that same color. All of our rabbits' pelts are in their prime.

We put nest boxes in for a couple does this evening, and this one seems as enthusiastic as we are to meet her first kits. She looks like, and hopefully will be a wonderful mother.

Update: SOLD

It is garden season, once again, and it's time to move the bunnie poo. Who needs fertilizer? I've got manure for sale by the feed bag, $20 per. Money goes back to feed the rabbits (we feed 1000 # a year). We do our best to pick and sift through it, but you will still find some hay and fur present, that will break down later. Currently, we have 9 bags ready to go.

We have lambs again! Went and got these cuties yesterday. 1 ewe and 2 going-to-be wethers. Boy, did Abby (the horse) miss her sheep! These butchar lambs display a good mix of qualities, from multiple breeds: Textile/Hampshire/Cheviot and maybe some Suffolk/Katahdin.

In the next year or two, we hope to be running our own small scale, meat and dairy lines. We might hold on to our girl. We will see. She is the lamb to the right, in the first pic.

We are very fond of Muscovy ducks for these exact reasons. As with all of our species, we aim for efficiency. Our goal here, is to have an animal produce the best quality product, in the shortest amount of time, for the least labor (easy keepers & good mothers), at the lowest investment needed. That includes eggs, offspring, individual resilience (regarding body condition, and health), and what goes towards the dinner table.

With excellent production & yield, being more self-reliant, and wonderful mothers, makes Muscovy a great addition to our place.

I hear it all the time from people looking for ducks: “anything BUT Muscovy…”

Well, guess what you WON’T get when you get anything but Muscovy, you “anything BUT Muscovy” crowd?

-you WON’T get quiet birds that barely make a sound.
🤔
-you WON’T get the friendliest feather puppies you’ve ever had wag their tails for you.
🤔
-you WON’T get the calmest ducklings ever to sit in a brooder.
🤔
-you WON’T get a mama that will hatch and raise anything you put under her.
🤔
-you WON’T get XL eggs that can feed a family but can’t fit into an egg carton without leaving the lid open.
🤔
-you WON’T get a rich RED meat that reaches market weight at 3 months of age and rivals any fancy restaurant steak but can be eaten by those with alpha-gal syndrome.
🤔
-you WON’T get a hardy bird that will forage for Its food while saving your wallet and ridding your property of mice and pests.
🤔
-you WON’T get a beautiful bird that comes in more colors and patterns than any other breed or species.
🤔
-you WON’T get the single most cost-effective, self-sufficient, smartest, and most valuable animal that any homestead could ever raise.
🤔

Those are all the things you WON’T be getting when you don’t get Muscovy, but don’t worry…
…we WILL be getting all of those things and MORE, because our homestead will NEVER be without them!

Muscovy, our A-1 since day 1!
Spread the word- it’s a Muscovy Takeover!
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK 📣

We have been very busy keeping up with the typical Winter routine (feeding, cleaning, mucking out, etc.), that we have not had a whole lot of new, news to share. Today is a little different. It's sugar season, and the sap is flowing! Tapped into one of our Sugar maples for the first time ever, around 10am. Video was taken at 11am. Super excited for this experience.

See: Maple Tapping Guide By University of Maine for more in-depth information:

We are very impressed with Cwik Feed. The Fry Farm gave them a try for the first time, about a month ago, and we love it! Located in Spangle Wa, Cwik Feed sells all non-GMO, high quality, and high commodity grains, collected by local growers in the surrounding areas. We are happy with their professionalism, kindness, and very reasonable prices. Cwick also does bulk orders! Check them out! By far, the best quality grain in the area. They cater to your beef, dairy cow, pig, & poultry needs. Did I mention that wholesale grain is tax exempt in Wa? Win, Win!
