When I started Normal School of Wine I did so with an honest and heartfelt desire to provide practical, no-no-nonsense wine wisdom for everyday life. From the beginning I knew I had no desire to make wine a mystery; to linger on the minutiae; or to act as yet another gatekeeper to some Great Mystery. Instead, I wanted to champion the experiencing of wine as an accessible pleasure available to all.
Four years later I am so incredibly proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in the last: several hundred classes; a full pivot to online-learning during the Pandemic; professional development and seminars for the industry across six states; and a podcast that’s heard all over the world with listeners in Vietnam, the UK, and India.
More importantly, Normal School of Wine brought me into a circle of incredible folks; taking me into their living rooms, parties, and get togethers. Many of these enthusiasts became my greatest cheerleaders, supporters, and some, my friends.
Normal School of Wine came at one of the most challenging times of my life, as I left a life and career behind and delved anew into uncharted waters, far from family and an established community back home. Normal School became a refuge, one where I could share something deeply personal and inspiring. In a way Normal School of Wine rescued me, and for that I’m eternally grateful.
And so it is with immense gratitude that I announce the “Farewell Tour” of Normal School of Wine as I embark on a new chapter of my professional life.
By next week we will be announcing a final set of classes and wine-tasting seminars culminating in a late April “Grand Farewell”. We will be announcing these in the days to come and they will be available for booking through Eventbrite and will be limited in capacity as we operate as responsibly as possible.
The final episode of Season 2 of Normal School of Wine The Podcast will be released soon and the podcast will conclude its broadcast this year with a bonus farewell episode out in April.
