We knew when we had our first child that this was the path for us raising our own food, helping others to know where their food comes, and the importance of supporting local farmers. It has been a rollercoaster ride to get here but here we are with a variety of animals on the homestead and a focus on preserving heritage breeds. We raise Delaware chickens for meat and eggs as well as a mixed flock
of Sapphire Olive eggers, Cinnamon Queens, and Dominiques. We have fertilized eggs if interested in hatching your own or have chicks at random times throughout the year. We also raise birds for meat. We raise pheasant and quail for meat, feathers, eggs, and chicks. We raise the wonderful American Guinea hogs and use the lard in our homemade soaps, and our all-natural skin care line. We enjoy watching our Cayuga and Khaki Campbell heritage breed Ducks waddle around the yard as we search for their eggs we sell for food or ducklings we hatch. The Silver Fox Rabbit is another heritage breed that graces our homestead. The pelt is beautiful, black with sliver streaks like a starry night sky. We raise these offering kits, meat, and pelts for sale when available. The Bourbon Red Turkey is another heritage breed that we offer for meat, feathers, and eggs when available with their active foraging, docile demeanor, and flavorful meat. We are currently growing our beehives to include honey one day in our homestead shop. Lastly, we have goats! The Nigerian Dwarf Goats, not a heritage breed but a great addition for the homestead or freezer. They have a higher butterfat content in the milk, have multiple kids at a time, stocky and smaller which is good for smaller homesteads, and have wonderful personalities. Last but not least Brownie, Mary Lavender, and Isaiah, the beginnings of our Nubian Goat herd. They produce a good amount of milk with a taste like cow's milk but without the intolerance and creamier in flavor. We are vendors at the Oconee Famer's Market every weekend from 9-1 at Harris Shoals Park in Watkinsville, where we sell our eggs, meat, skin care, boiled peanuts, and crafts.
