We can't afford to sit back and do nothing about climate change anymore. Food and its production, transportation, and waste contributes about ⅓ of global greenhouse emissions.

Even small steps are steps in the right direction (and the smallest steps are the easiest to put into practice and build on!).

Choosing foods that don't have to travel to get to you is a great way to take a small step toward positive change.

Another great way is to reduce water consumption.

At Produce'd, we're passionate about moving the needle in a positive direction in manageable, meaningful ways. Our Grow Blocks, launching this fall, are designed to help you easily, affordably, and conveniently pitch in to making positive change in your habits.

The result? Sustainable, affordable food grown right in your living room using less water and fewer resources than traditional gardening.

Hey all! Greg here from Produce'd. Today I'm sharing a bit about my background and why I built this company.

I grew up in a small town in middle Georgia called Lizella. Dirt roads (on which my parents still live today) and their road is even named after my grandfather because he made the road that leads to their home.

I grew up tending to animals and gardens. I remember my first seed planting experience with my mom as we were planting beans. She gave me a handful of beans and asked me to dig small holes and place one bean in each hole every few steps.

Because I wasn't the best listener as a child (my wife would say even today!), I put A LOT of beans into one hole every few steps instead.

The amazement of seeing a form of life come out of the ground over the next few days changed my world forever!

Since then, I've grown a passion for gardening and plants.

I later became frustrated with not being able to grow my favorite foods year round as they were seasonal, with a host of other things that needed to align in order to have a successful harvest.

After researching and experimenting ways to grow food all year long, I came across vertical hydroponics. This was about 10 years ago and I knew right away that this is what I wanted to do.

My wife lent space in our laundry room to start a home hobby system. I then expanded into a 150sq. ft. back yard shed to now growing commercially in a 2400 sq. ft. climate-controlled warehouse.

This fall, on November 15, we're launching our Grow Blocks. These small-but-mighty systems allow you to grow enough food to feed your family right from your living room. With Grow Blocks we're taking on rising food costs, food access inequality, the environmental impact of produce traveling to get to you, water use, and more.

I hope you'll join us along the journey! Head to the link in our bio to enter to win a free Grow Block system. See you there!

Nearly 80 billion pounds of food is wasted every year in the US… something has to change.

To give you some perspective, that’s like every person in America throwing two medium sized apples in the garbage every single day.

Wasted resources at each level of the food chain are estimated at $218 billion dollars annually in this country.

Since we cannot expand the earth and the US population is expected to reach over 400 Million people in less than 30 years, the question becomes: how do we increase food production to feed this many people?

Climate Change – The carbon footprint of US food waste is greater than that of the airline industry. One third (1/3) of all edible farmed produce in the US goes to waste.

Twenty one percent (21%) of all agricultural water resources goes to waste.

Food makes up twenty one percent (21%) of all landfills are wasted food cosmetically imperfect, damaged, culled, unharvested.

Nearly 40% of all food in the United States is wasted, according to a study from the National Resources Defense Council.

Here at Produce’d we know we can’t save the world … but we’re going to try. One family at a time. One hydroponic system at a time. Will you join us? Comment below to learn how.

Besides the Vitamin A/C/K, cancer-fighting carotenoids, and numerous other benefits, romaine lettuce is also a powerful sleep aid!

It contains high levels of lactucarium - that milky looking fluid that comes out of the bottom of the lettuce stem. Yep that stuff.

Well it’s called the “lettuce opium”, and has sedative properties to promote relaxation.

Now that’s a pretty cool fun fact. Include romaine lettuce in your home gardens and give it a try!

Gardening is quickly becoming the thing to do and not only because of the pandemic alone.

Gardners are now younger (18-34) and represent 29% of all gardening households.

From traditional outdoor gardening to the increasingly popular indoor hydroponic gardening.

Growing your own food is here to stay! Do yourself some good and grow something.🙂
