Hard post to write tonight. I lost one of my sweet call ducks. 💔
She drowned in the pool, most likely from a drake mating her in the water. Call ducks are small, and if a drake holds them down they may not be able to lift their head above the water.
I wanted to share this because I know many of us keep pools for our ducks.
During breeding season it might be safer to: • ft
• Make sure there are easy escape ramps
• Watch for overly aggressive drakes
I never imagined this could happen until it did. If sharing this helps another duck keeper prevent it, then something good can come from tonight.
