I was cleaning out some files & came across all these cards & notes from customers! Honestly on the hard days this type of thing really kept me going. 🥰 If you’re in a CSA or go to a farmstand or farmers market now is a perfect time to tell your farmers how much you appreciate them. Be it a card, a little tip, email or a pat on the back! Google & Facebook reviews mean the world, too!

August is a VERY hard time, physically & mentally for veg growers… & all this rain will no doubt make things harder. 😬🤯

Please support them!! 🙏🙏🙏

After we stepped away from being a vegetable farm we were able to rest deeply, rediscover other passions, & tend to this land w/ a different set of intentions. Not for massive production, not for providing tons of jobs or make monthly loan payments or to keep up w/ some ideal image of an organic farmer. But instead to co-exist w/ the land. To observe it, to notice, to give to it & to receive from it. A reciprocal relationship w/no finish line. No resentment. No burnout.

We are so eternally grateful for our 15 years as vegetable farmers, our staff over all those years & of course… our customers. Know we havent forgotten a single one of you!

Of course there’s the plant sales & garden days next spring… but until then, we will keep resting & tending to this land. Grain harvest is close.. & then it’s time to order seeds & plan for next year!!

Did you plant onions this year? It might be time to harvest them! Look and see if the tops are mostly falling over! They’re super easy to just pluck from the ground. We lay ours in a single layer in a shaded, dry spot w/lots of airflow. Wait a couple weeks & they’ll be cured & can be stored in a cool, dark, dry place for months! (If you don’t want to cure them, just cut the top off after harvest & store in th fridge.

After more than a decade of growing onions on a large scale, I must admit… our harvest this year is humbling (& so cute!). Since we aren’t selling these anymore we can grow them just for us!

Grab some onion starts from us next year at our plant sales!

One of my favorites to grow (& share the plants w/ you all!!). 📣 Benary’s Giant Zinnia. 📣 They come in all shades of the rainbow, massive blooms sometimes 4-5 inches across, & the plants grow 4 feet tall!! 😃🤓 I’ve got vases full of these beauties all over the house!!

You’re looking at the future spot of our newest prairie! (Can’t be “PrairiErth” without some more legit prairie, right?!). This was a 2ish acre field that we used to grow vegetables, grains, cover crops, etc in. Now it will be an abundant field of native grasses, flowers, pollinators, song birds, and humans full of awe! 🥰😍

Once it’s established we’ll mow a small labyrinth path through for some contemplative strolling… but as they say.. all good things take time. So stay tuned! 🦋

Want to see something weird? I haven’t figured it out. These coneflower petals are acting strange. Some are curled in, some are like windmills or spirals. Different individual plants, but the same variety, AND the plants have some normal flowers, on them, too. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Did you get a pepperchini plant from us this year? They’re probably ready to start picking!

We LOVE these pickled peppers in salads, on pizza, etc! Not spicy… just salty and sour and crunchy! Here’s a great recipe for making them! (Yes, I re-used store bought pickle jars!! 😂😂).

https://www.daringgourmet.com/pickled-pepperoncini-peppers/

These are refrigerated pickles which means no canning - so they need to be stored in the fridge!

These two jars (one sliced and one whole) will last us about 2 weeks! 😬😂
