Dear friends of the Children of Vietnam,

We wanted to send you our warmest thanks for your purchase of our cookbook, « Cooking for a Child’s Dream », and hope that you have been enjoying all of our recipes. By virtue of your support, we were able to sell close to a thousand books, amounting to a total profit of 10,000 euros.

These proceeds will all be sent to the organization in Vietnam, which will allow great enhancement for the orphanages. 3,000 euros will go towards a gate, as well as insulation and ceilings for five of the rooms in one of the Children of Vietnam’s centre, inaugurated in January 2015. The other centre will benefit from a new dormitory for teenage girls with the remainder of the proceeds, giving them a bit of privacy.

Attached, you will find an index for the cookbook, which you can print out and add to your book. We were not able to include it originally due to various constraints. This book is the product of hard work, but by no means is it the work of professionals. As such, you may also find various mistakes in it. We hope that you will accept our most sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

Lastly, we would like to invite all of you to a luncheon on Thursday, April 23rd starting at noon, at Thao Boudard’s house (791 Moores Mill Rd. Atlanta, GA 30327). However, we understand that this will unfortunately be harder for our friends accross the globe. We will be serving authentic Vietnamese food, and occidental desserts. Please RSVP to [email protected]. A donation would be appreciated in order to further help the Children of Vietnam ($30 suggested). We hope to see you there !

En tenant ce livre de recettes entre vos mains, ce sont les secrets d’un cœur qui s’est ouvert à vous que vous aurez la sensation de détenir. Cet ouvrage est le fruit de l’amour, de l’amitié et du sentiment d’affection qui unit un groupe de femmes venues des quatre coins du monde et d’horizons très différents. Des femmes éloignées de leur famille d’origine mais soudées entre elles. Des femmes qui se rencontrent de façon informelle pour partager les défis et les joies de leur vie quotidienne mais également leurs recettes de cuisine et les restes des repas concoctés par leurs soins, dans la demeure accueillante d’une amie qui leur est chère : Thao. C’est dans ce cadre authentique et hospitalier et grâce à elle que nous avons pu réaliser nos aspirations.

À l’origine de ce projet, une idée simple et pure : venir en aide à ceux qui en ont besoin. Portées par une énergie positive, avec Thao comme chef de file et source d’inspiration, nos efforts se sont dirigés vers « Les Enfants du Vietnam ». Ce projet, cher au cœur de Thao, est la raison de ce livre. Décidées à travailler ensemble, nous avons donc invité amis, collègues et voisins à nous rejoindre pour préparer et cuisiner un grand nombre de nos recettes favorites et faire table commune pour partager les plats ainsi réalisés. Issus de nos “Cooking Labs”, ces repas savoureux et ces recettes gourmandes sont devenus l’objet central de ce livre.

Derrière l’expérience des “Cooking Labs”, il y a finalement, plus que des recettes de cuisine. Des eaux de cuissons qui débordent, des montagnes de vaisselle à laver et des fous rires, bien sûr, mais aussi l’occasion pour nous de nouer de nouvelles relations au travers d’une activité utile, le tout dans une cuisine qui fleurait bon l’esprit d’entente autour d’une table dressée avec amour. N’oublions pas ce qui a guidé notre démarche avant tout : venir en aide à un groupe d’enfants du Vietnam et nous rappeler, tout en le rappelant à nos propres enfants, l’importance de donner aux autres.

This book of recipes may be the closest you ever come to holding another’s heart in your hands. It represents the love, friendship and care of a group of very different women from different circumstances, from all corners of the world. Women all living away from family, but close to each other. Women who meet informally as mothers and friends, and share everyday challenges and joys along with recipes and leftovers in the inviting home of a dear friend: Thao. Her genuine and hospitable manner provided a perfect setting to realize our aspirations.

This project started as a pure and simple vision from the heart to benefit those in need. With positive energy, and Thao as our inspiration, we focused our efforts towards Les Enfants du Vietnam. This project is dear to Thao and the reason this book came to life. Working together, we invited friends, colleagues and neighbors to join us in preparing, cooking, and eating a variety of favorite recipes around a communal table. Dubbing these tasty meals Cooking Labs, they became the core of this book.

In the end, the Cooking Labs provided more than recipes. They gave us spills, new connections, laughter, plenty of dirty dishes, and purposeful activity—all in a kitchen filled with camaraderie around a table set with love. Most important, they provided the ingredients to assist a group of children in Vietnam and reminded each of us, and our own children, of the power of giving.
