Boy this one goes way back too. I remember having such a hard time getting consistent growth with a few of these beds.

Watering Setup

I was always afraid to show videos like this. I felt like it should be more, or people would expect more. The reality of it is a lot of food can come from a plot this size. Not sure why I chose to do 50ft beds, especially behind me were more 50ft beds. Today I would just do 100's. I guess I was watching to many urban farmer videos.

Centurion Farm Farmer Veteran Tour

Good Video. I definitely feel that lack of purpose with all the regular jobs I have. Farming is so attractive to Veterans for many reasons, but a sense of purpose is right up there at the top

1. Stay positive
2. Find a balance
3. Accept that you will fail.

These three things (not my own creation) are things you just have to tell yourself and live your life by on a daily basis.

1. Don't concentrate on the failures you have had or are having, instead look at the success you have had and concentrate on that. Learn and move on.

2. Make sure you balance your life and your work. I made this mistake the last few years and neglected my family. Our business failed because of this, not money, not my market, this. So don't think that planting one more bed before you go to bed is going to get you ahead, it won't in the long run.

3. Lastly, accept that you will fail. In fact you probably will fail 10 times for every success. Don't look at this so negatively. Sure it really sucks, but you will have learned a valuable lesson that you won't repeat and in turn you can take that lesson and teach someone else where you failed.

Just some things that have been on my mind lately that I wanted to share. Like I said these things aren't new and I certainly didn't come up with it on my own, but they are great.

First bed is coming up well. There are some inconsistent spots but this is from the watering method not being completely uniform. Overall it looks good though. Second bed is just now emerging several more to go for succession plantings.

Things are getting there. Will have some salad mixes to sell soon.

We are slowly working on getting everything we need together. Thanks to some friends and farmer friends we have some of that stuff a little sooner than we expected. We hope to be able to get back into production mid summer.

Now, if we can get back into Cherry Street that would be great. Right now they are telling me there is no room. I wish we had known we would get what we needed to get straightened out mentally done so quick or I would have just payed my dues and showed up in the middle of the season. Oh well, for all of you guys that attend Cherry street normally, maybe throw a few hints towards those guys running the show there lol.

05/18/2017

Well we made it back to the farm and right now we are just busy unpacking. We came back to all our fencing removed by someone and my A/C compressor on my walk in cooler gone. Technically the place wasn't ours anymore when we left, but for anyone other than the owners removing it, it's stealing from us or the owners.

Either way there isn't anything I can do about it. It is going to set me back quite a long ways though, on top of the already lofty set back I was already working with. Such is my luck lol, I'm starting to get used to God's (or whoever you happen to believe in) challenges. Keep us in your thoughts, gonna have to get a job to buy back some of these things so if anyone is hiring send me a msg :-)

05/10/2017

Well we didn't make a year. We are going to be coming back to Henryetta in a few weeks and opening the farm back up. Probably wont have the animals going again for a bit. But, we may be able to get some veggies up and going if we can get a market to get into.

The vacation was fun, but we found out that we don't make the best lazy vacationers. It was great though, it was a big stress reliever. So keep watching us for updates, the farm will be opening back up soon!

03/07/2017

Not farming right now, but I still have that itch this time of year. I am thinking of getting a small planter and putting it in my bus for some tasty salad greens. Can't get a good salad to save my life. So gonna get me some good lettuce and some arugula yummmmm.

02/14/2017

So haven't posted in awhile. We are taking a break for about a year and traveling the country. So far we've been to Big Bend, Guadeloupe Mountains, and Carlsbad caverns. Probably going to Saguaro NP next. Trying to hit up all the NPs.

12/06/2016

I need some folks willing to do an inspection checklist for a project we are working on. It isn't to difficult and it walks you through it. Msg me if your willing to help us out, thanks ahead of time.
