It’s a praying mantis ootheca...basically a protective egg case that houses hundreds of tiny mantises waiting for their moment to emerge!

​Finding one of these in your garden is always a win. They are such helpful little predators to have around, keeping the pest population in check naturally. It’s amazing to see the next generation of garden guardians tucked away right on our garden fencing.

We've been hit hard this season.

The poor dahlias were annihilated over winter. Worked on restocking and starting with twenty two varieties. We'll see how that goes soon enough.

🥒 Cucumbers - two rounds...gone.
🫑🌶 Peppers and jalapenos ...gone.
🌸 50 ft row of sweet pea flowers and giant marigolds...gone.
🌼 strawflowers, fillers...gone

BUT we were blessed with a beautiful harvest of lavender, onions, garlic, broccoli, cabbage, herbs, and strawberries. Our little blueberry plants and quick growing blackberries our working hard to push out those berries. (The birds have been busy!)

Our motto...it will be better next year!

Sitting in the sun room this evening talking to my grandma on the phone...hold on grandma, I need to snap a picture of my chicken feasting at the birdfeeder. 🤦🏼‍♀️ She hopped up about 15 steps for a snack 🙃

Once again MIA...there's a lot going on and its been hard to catch a picture or even the brain capacity to write a post.

🦅 Little Bit survived our first hawk attack. She has been recouping in the office since Thursday. Shes much better but still wobbles a bit when walking. NURTI DRENCH to the rescue. Blueberries 🫐 too

❄️ The yard has become a mud pit PELLETIZED BEDDING from TSC saved the day this weekend.

🥚 While I was heading back inside something caught my eye...eggs laid under the mini coop. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Trash eggs. But the ladies are starting to earn their keep and laying!

🌸 Dahlias were pulled from slumber and lost more than half. 🫩 and most reputable Dahlia sellers have closed sales for the season. I found one so far. BUT my pal in MA might be a saving grace.

🐥 The babies came a day early! Day old babies from OH. Healthy and loud!

The trial and errors of the season have started. But those lead to the tried and true. 🌱
