I had the opportunity to learn several different crafts while at a spiritual retreat last week. My favorite was blacksmithing, but the fused glass was fun too.

It's been a rough couple weeks and a lot of my creative exploits have been put on the back burner, but walking outside to see life emerging from the tiny seeds I harvested from a grocery store melon brings me a bit of joy.

With chronic illness you learn to simplify things and appreciate those little things. With very little energy to do complicated baking as of late I was excited to learn that the special vanilla extract I started 2 years ago is now fully aged.
Basic Chantilly cream (what most people think of as whipped cream) is a cloud of sweet, silky luxury—softly whipped heavy cream kissed with just the right amount of vanilla and sugar. It is the perfect base to highlight the nuanced flavors of the vanilla bean and spices from the kraken rum. Light yet decadent, it elevates everything it touches, whether spooned over fresh berries, nestled beside a slice of cake, or licked straight from the whisk when no one’s watching. It’s dessert’s finishing touch—and a simple pleasure all on its own.
This can be made with a hand whisk, but I cheat by using a pressurized whipped cream canister.

Social media is full of edited mistakes, but mistakes are a part of any craft. I've had to scrap several pieces lately. It can be disappointing, but every mistake, every "start over", is a learning opportunity.
Here's to more growth.

One of the first clay items I made was a finger labyrinth mug. Due to time constraints I couldn't adjust it the way I wanted, and I hadn't yet learned some of the "rules of clay" and various techniques. Now I'm refining my process to make some cleaner and stronger versions.
I'm excited to experiment with various glaze techniques on these as well.

The last "art" class I had was in middle school and I have never once attempted to sculpt the human form until now. I should have documented the comical evolution of trying to remember what lips look like....
