Truly a beautiful Autumn. Some foliage views from the last few weeks up to today . Snow tomorrow ? And then hopefully a week of sunny days coming so we can finish all the tasks of putting the gardens to bed , planting garlic, tulip bed prep, mulching and the many other end-of-season chores to be done before real snow comes for good. Moving the ruminants over the land, here and at several other off-farm sites, daily, of course. Dogs doing their jobs well, fall lambs will be born soon, spring lambs being created now 😉, winter feed getting stockpiled , winter projects already filling a few notebook pages, herbs and dried flower creations on the workbench, a massive flurry of crafting about to commence…. Stay tuned for some announcements re: holiday markets and where to find our dried flowers and wreaths in the next couple months, as well as grassfed beef, lamb& goat.

It was a good September. A lot of land was grazed , the animals got fatter , many flowers were sent out to many hands and tables , the pollinators were happy, the dogs did their jobs well, a lot of firewood was stacked, we relished the sun. Final Flower CSA being packed as we speak, the flocks and the herds moving to new paddocks, and the earlier darkness being used as time to catch up on emails, organizing and making plans for the coming seasons. October is our final month of grazing, hard frosts soon will put the gardens to deep sleep, new beds will be made for thousands of tulip bulbs and garlic, and we will hope for good grass as long as possible. 🐑 🐐 🌻

Not our beeves, and not our flowers, in these photos - we went on a little trip! Adam’s sister got married at the beautiful Santa Fe Botanical Garden over the weekend, which meant we did a LOT of logistical maneuvering and many weeks of planning to leave the farm (in the capable hands of several good helpers, friends and neighbors). Our family hasn’t taken a trip, all of us together, in many years ! We were able to visit our daughter at Western Colorado University, spend a couple days near Santa Fe, and explore some high elevation rangeland, travel over high passes, and find some snow. Now back to our flocks and gardens , moving animals, harvesting buckets of flowers for the final CSA week, and more stacking of firewood! We really enjoy seeing the diverse landscapes of this country, and enjoy even more seeing the diverse ways farmers, ranchers, families and communities tend to the land. It’s easy to get caught up in negativity, doubt and worry about the future of open, working, and public lands - good to get out on them and purposely seek examples of people doing the work of taking good care of land and livestock. Thanks to all who do so 🌾

How lucky to live on the same Earth that grows all of these amazing plants ! Want to learn more about them ?? Herb classes are back at the Barnet Library again this fall 🧄
It has sort of taken a backseat to the grazing and growing of other things right now, but growing medicinal herbs, making herbal products, offering herbal consults, and teaching have always been part of my (Emma) farming life. I discontinued my herb website because it was too much to try to keep two separate businesses organized, but I haven’t discontinued my herb work! As the seasons shift, I start to turn my focus back to pressing/straining/bottling the many tinctures I make throughout the summer, organizing my dried herbs, taking stock of what remedies we’ve run low on, and what people are requesting…AND teaching my Basics of Home Herbalism class 🫖
Come join for the whole series, or one or two classes as they fit in your schedule. Open to ALL levels- I love for folks to come willing to share their own herbal traditions and recipes , and I love teaching total newbies.
classes will be held at the Barnet Public Library*every other* Monday evening, beginning October 5!

Flowers are in the stand all weekend ! Mixed dahlias/foxgloves/snapdragons this morning, more varieties later this afternoon 💐
Some gorgeous and cheerful zinnia bunches just went over to the Gingue Family Farm Store, too 😊
