This popped across my feed today. I normally do not post about anything beyond what happens on my farm.
I try to give benefit of the doubt because I know emergencies happen. This article disturbed me deeply. I've raised goats for several years. There are some things you don't freaking touch if you do not know exactly what you are doing and have tools/medications on hand to do it.
This is something I would not do, unless it was an absolutely last ditch effort after the doe had passed.
I definitely would not be doing this on a live doe with a dull knife and a pair of scissors. While many of us use animals to make an income, this was grotesque to put it lightly. Turn off the camera and get that animal the help it needs, especially with a vet that close. What this animal endured is horrific to me. We handle a lot of stuff in house. We have made decisions to euthanize animals. Things that require surgery either go to a vet or are euthanized. It depends on the situation and, yes, the animal involved.
I'm struggling here and sincerely hoping that the article is a sensationalized version of events. Given the charges filed, I don't really think it is. Vets don't report randomly, especially livestock ones. While we do handle a lot of things at home, you better believe I respect and appreciate every veterinarian that has ever worked on our animals.
Livestock still deserves our respect and compassion whether they are born/raised for meat, snuggles, milk or just pets. When they become nothing more than an "object" step away and find a new line of work, maybe see a psychiatrist.
The owner of the Farm Show’s popular goat snuggling station is facing felony animal cruelty charges after he performed an at-home C-section on a goat who died.
