Happy Thursday from the Moo Mama's 🐮🤎

You can't see the irritagation pivot in the pic but it's there just beyond the cows. It has helped us out tremendously this summer!! You wouldn't be seeing this lush green grass if we didn't have it. We went almost a month without rain with mid 80* and ☀️...

Thankfully we've had a bit of rain this past week 🙌🏾

Elderberries are ripe and ready to be picked today!

Perfect for making your own elderberry syrup ✨
We make one similar to this 👇🏾😋
https://wellnessmama.com/remedies/elderberry-syrup/

$4/lb you pick - we can take you out to the trees. Bring a bucket and strong scissors

$7/lb we pick for you

A gallon ziplock bag is about 2 1/2 lbs of berries + stems.

Grown on our organic regenerative dairy farm. They are in the 25' buffer strip between us and the neighbors but the trees are more on our side.

Some dual purpose stuff going on here😆

This cowboy pool has been a dream for quite some time. Really a wood fired hot tub is the end goal but until then this will need to do!!

We may or may not share this charming experience with our guests 😜✨ actually of course we will but it's not part of the booking ... just compliments from the farm. Jump in, relax + watch the sunset at your own risk 😉

Monthly test time!

We collect a small sample of milk from each cow to send to the lab... Here's what we test for:

✔️ SCC - somatic cell count [udder infection level]
✔️ Fat + protein levels
✔️ Milk volume - how many lbs she's giving
✔️ Pregnancy [sometimes]
And a few other less important things.

We also collected 20 samples to send off for A2/A2 testing ✨ Cows that either missed previous tests or are young and new to the herd.

Remember our post on June 8 about having SWEET CORN on our minds? Planting and mulching?

Well.

We have a little story about what happened to it.
A short story of the corn and the 🦆

I meant to post this earlier but kept forgetting... Anyway here it is

We were all excited about a big corn patch with lots to share!! Well, little did we know that a wild duck found our patch and if you know the nature of ducks, they like to walk down the row eating the delicious tender shoots.🌱
Where each plant should have been, there was a hole that only a duck bill can make.

The corn patch is no more😢

And what happened to the duck? She had built her nest a short distance from the patch. And had we not decided to cut the surrounding grass for winter feed we probably would have never found her. But we did cut hay. The farmer saw her and carefully cut around her nest. But later the rake wheel went exactly over her and all her eggs.....

At first we were sad but when we figured she was likely the queen culprit for all the missing corn... The sadness sort of left 🤭

The end.

P.S. We'll try again next year 🙌🏾

Cutting hay.
Tractor rides.
Lemonade.
Skid steers.
Cheese sticks.
Bales.
Lots of sweet smelling bales.
Bales that will keep the cows making sweet delicious milk in winter 🥛😋🤍

And a new baby calf 🤎

Here's a video I made for the regenerative dairy group that I'm on, showing how we're keeping the cows cool in the 90* weather we've been having.

So far I'm really happy with the misters... with a 5 mph breeze it feels a lot cooler under here, 10mph feels chilly 😃
