It’s official — Frey Chick Farm is now officially a cow-calf operation! 🤎🐮
Although calves weren’t expected until mid-June, it seems our girls had their own schedule in mind and decided to start THREE weeks early!
Late Wednesday evening, our little heifer officially graduated to the title of “cow” and became a mama for the first time. Then yesterday morning, we woke up to our second calf — a sweet little boy! 🐂
It also looks like we may have two more mamas getting ready to go very soon, so the excitement around the farm is definitely picking up.
We did have a little scare yesterday evening after getting home from work. Our little guy didn’t really want to get up, and as the night went on he started struggling with standing, shaking, and wasn’t able to latch onto mom. Talk about a scary moment for first-time cattle owners. My mom instincts kicked in fast, and I knew we had to do something.
So off I ran for colostrum and calf replacer, and in the wee hours of the night we found ourselves bottle feeding a very hungry little calf. Thankfully, he took to it quickly. Honestly, it turned into such a special bonding experience for the three of us. ❤️
We’re happy to report that early this morning, moms and calves are all up, alert, healthy, and ready to take on Friday!
Stay tuned because it looks like we’ll have more little farm kiddos arriving very soon. 🐄✨
