Notes from the road: We woke up in Yellowstone National Park to temperatures below freezing. We could see our breath! 🥶 It was such a magical morning, finishing up our time in Yellowstone and having a casual breakfast in the park before heading off to Grand Teton National Park.

Jenny Lake was perfect and we hadn’t been back since our trip in 2020 during COVID. It was just as magical as I remembered. 🏔️❤️

We took a little hike down to the lake to enjoy the views, skip rocks and get our feet wet. There’s something about being barefoot at the edge of a mountain lake that feels tranquil.

From there, we made our way to iconic Jackson Hole for a nap, some sightseeing and dinner. We ended the day with a beautiful steak dinner before heading out for the night.

And then it hit us… it was time to start planning the last few days of our vacation.

At this point, we were both ready to head home. We’ve packed so much traveling, exploring and adventure into this trip that we’re ready to soak it all in with a little staycation at home and recharge. ❤️

I always start getting a little homesick toward the end of a trip and Pete is my absolute ride-or-die. If I’m ready to go home, he’s ready. If I want to keep exploring, he’s always down. I love that about us.

So today officially marks our last vacation adventure day. We have about 22-ish hours of driving between us and home, but we’re going to make the journey back a leisurely one.

No rushing. No itinerary. Just one last little road trip home.

I know our Rosie and farm misses us. Maybe a few friends and our patients too.

Notes from the road: We started the morning in a thunderstorm, making this the 4th one of the trip so far. Cold, rainy weather is usually my favorite, so I was loving every minute of it. 🌧️ We even got to see a full rainbow, which was absolutely gorgeous.

We stopped at a little mom-and-pop café in Red Lodge, Montana, before heading out to drive what is often called one of the most beautiful highways in America: the Beartooth Highway. And let me tell you, it completely lived up to the hype. 🏔️

The Beartooth Highway, or U.S. 212, climbs from Red Lodge toward Yellowstone’s Northeast Entrance, reaching nearly 11,000 feet in elevation. The route is famous for its dramatic switchbacks and incredible change in landscape.

And we experienced all of it in one drive. The switchbacks were wild. One minute we were surrounded by pine trees and the next, snow was literally falling on us as we climbed toward the summit. We reached around 11,000 feet. This one is absolutely going on the must-do bucket list. It was truly special. ❄️

From there, we made our way into Yellowstone National Park and started exploring the Northeast side. We encountered several herds of bison, a solo elk, beautiful mountain scenery and plenty of those moments where you just have to stop and take it all in. 🦬🦌

We had dinner, enjoyed a perfect little picnic and even squeezed in a nap in the park before settling in for the night.

And then came the cold! 🥶 The temperatures dropped below freezing overnight and our insulated van got down to about 40° inside. It was definitely cold, but there was something so cozy about bundling up inside the van while the temperature outside kept dropping. A very cold, very quiet, very cozy night in Yellowstone. 🤎

We literally went to sleep surrounded by one of the most incredible places in the country.

There’s something pretty special about taking your shoes off and slowing down. 🤎🌲

Pete and I spent a little time barefoot in the gardens at Cascade of Time Garden in Banff, letting our feet touch the earth and simply being present in the moment.

They call it grounding, or earthing and there’s something undeniably restorative about getting outside, connecting with nature, feeling the earth beneath your feet, breathing in the mountain air and letting yourself relax.

Consider this your reminder to go outside and touch mother earth today.

Notes from the road: What a fun day exploring Montana! We started in Dillon before heading to Twin Bridges for their farmers market, then made our way to Bozeman for the day.

And let me tell you, we really fell in love with Bozeman. We hiked and drove through Hyalite Canyon, then had a mountain picnic after our hike to Palisade Falls. The drive through the mountains was breathtaking. The air was so crisp and clean and of course, Tesla soaked it all up with her head and paws out the window. 🐶🏔️

Pete and I don’t visit many places more than once, but we’ve officially moved Bozeman to the top of our radar. While Texas is sitting in 100+ degree heat, it was in the 60s here and we absolutely loved the weather. Bozeman downtown is beautiful and the mountains are so close to town that you can feel completely immersed in nature without being far from everything.

We highly recommend this area. It has that perfect combination of mountain town charm, beautiful scenery, great weather and plenty to explore. I can definitely see us coming back here soon.

We closed out the evening with a wonderful dinner at Pizza Campania, where we shared calamari, pizza and a beet salad.

Another day, another little piece of Montana that stole our hearts.

Notes from the road: Today was our most relaxing day yet. We took it easy, stopping in small Montana towns and spending a little more time in Helena and Dillon, where we stayed for the night.

We did some van housekeeping, tackled laundry and even got a workout in at the YMCA. Honestly, I’m surprised I’m not homesick yet! We’re still having an absolute blast living out of the van and we’re only a couple of hours from Yellowstone.

The photos are a little collection of our trip so far because day 8 wasn’t nearly adventurous. Hehe

Montana looks like a painting everywhere you turn. The mountains, the open roads, the little towns… it’s all ridiculously beautiful. And the mountain air is so clean and crisp that we haven’t even needed the A/C.

We did get caught in another rainstorm on the road, but thankfully, this one didn’t feel like a scene from a horror movie.

Tomorrow, we’re headed toward Yellowstone National Park. 🏔️🦬🍃
