Hey guys!
Started acting on this idea I've had for some time to create a space to:
~market our home-raised egg sales at more Farmer's Market type pricing ($5/dozen/ish)
~gently create awareness to the general public of the cruelty innate to massive egg production facilities and knowledge WHY their eggs are so cheap
~give customers who prefer a more natural and humane alternative to other more mainstream egg options a place to find eggs to buy
To be a recognized SELLER in this group, we ask (on the honor system) that you subscribe to the following principles :
~keep a smaller, well cared for flock
~provide your girls quality diet
~provide your girls a quality habitat that encourages and allows them to "be chickens", to forage on the ground, to take dust baths, to flap their wings unobstructed
~provide predator-proof housing for your hens (we don't expect 0 losses in the real world) and that YOU ADDRESS depredation humanely, by learning from mistakes and shoring up weak areas rather than treating wildlife as villains for doing what is natural to them to get an easy meal. ***Killing encroaching wildlife WILL get you banned from this group.*** Trapping/relocating isn't a good solution either (more on that later).
~Make an effort to acquire your laying stock from reputable, humane suppliers (and each other!)
~Refuse to buy new plastic or styrofoam egg cartons (reusing old ones is fine)
~Have a retirement plan for your girls when their production drops off
~be kind to one another here; we all have much to learn
Together, we can create a better value-added egg market through awareness, education and committing to provide a superior product.

I'll post better pictures later before we get rolling. I'm planning on ordering some labels for our egg cartons.
