Just recently completed a Mighty 5 national park road trip in Utah, which, as always, includes on our vacations, stops at local breweries. We enjoyed some great b**rs at Zion Canyon Brewery just outside the gates of Zion NP, Proper Brewing and Moab Brewing in Moab, UT near Arches NP, and stops at local restaurants outside of Capitol Reef, and Canyonlands. I noticed immediately that all drafts were at 5% or less. Utah state law stipulates draft b**rs be at this ABV, but the same b**r in can or bottles can be a higher ABV. Go figure. Also, it seems inevitable that high tourism towns charge a premium for food and drink with draft pints at $7. Have you experienced these prices in other parts of the US in high traffic tourist destinations? Comments welcomed. (Submitted by J. McFaul)

A BIG brew day in Santa Claus, IN.

A traditional all grain recipe included the step of "decoction mashing" which is a traditional technique where a portion of the mash is removed, boiled in a separate vessel, and returned to the main mash to raise its temperature.

Decoction was used long before accurate thermometers existed, and boiling a precise fraction of the mash was the reliable way to hit specific temperature rests.The final product will be 21 gallons of hefeweizen. PROST! (See comments for additional pics.)
