Got a smaller operation then last year vegetable wise. Getting at least 6 to 8 cucumbers a day! Also tomatoes are starting to come up. This is the first year of us not doing any okra so unfortunately we won't be having any this year.

Smart Plant Pairings for Bigger Harvests 🍅

Some plants simply grow better together. Choosing the right companions can boost growth, reduce pests, and increase your yield — naturally.

1️⃣ Tomatoes + Basil
Basil supports tomato growth and may help deter certain insects.
Relatable mistake 😅 planting tomatoes alone and wondering why pests show up first.

2️⃣ Carrots + Onions
The strong scent of onions confuses carrot pests, while carrots don’t attract onion enemies. A simple natural defense system.

3️⃣ Strawberries + Garlic
Garlic acts as a natural repellent against some insects and diseases, helping strawberries stay healthier and more productive.

4️⃣ Cucumbers + Dill
Dill attracts beneficial insects that support pollination and natural pest control, giving cucumbers a helpful boost.

Planting with intention saves space, strengthens natural protection, and improves harvests — all without chemicals. 🌱

Letting every leaf grow might feel right 🌿 — but smart gardeners know that strategic pruning can completely transform your harvest.

When you remove excess growth, the plant redirects its energy into fruit instead of unnecessary foliage. Better airflow, less disease, stronger structure — and ultimately, bigger, sweeter, higher-quality produce.

🍅 Vegetables That Reward Firm Pruning:

• Tomatoes — Train to 1–2 strong stems and remove suckers for earlier harvests, larger fruits, and fewer fungal problems.
• Peppers — Pinch early flowers and thin lower leaves to build stronger plants with heavier later yields.
• Cucumbers — Prune side shoots on trellised plants to improve airflow and grow straighter, better-shaped fruit.
• Summer Squash — Remove aging leaves weekly to reduce mildew and keep plants producing longer.
• Melons — Limit each vine to a few fruits for sweeter, fully ripened melons instead of many bland ones.
• Eggplant — Shape to 5–6 sturdy branches to produce fewer but significantly larger, market-quality fruits.

Pruning changes the plant’s energy “budget.”
Less spent on excess leaves.
More invested in fruit size, flavor, and consistency.

Focused growth always beats tangled growth 🌱
