Okay. Let's be real. How many of us have gone through and looked at our rabbits and thought...

"I wonder if I bred this rabbit with a good loin to this rabbit with good depth, would the babies have both?"

"Does a fantastic foot base matter more on the sire or the dam?"

"If I breed this poor-shouldered rabbit to this excellent rabbit, would the babies look poor or great?"

Well, I certainly have. I am always wondering what the likelihood of genetic confirmation actually gets passed down. So I started to do some research, but I found little to no information! I was so surprised, as rabbits have been around so long. I thought surely there would be something out there.

This has led me to decide to conduct my own research project on these questions.

I am so excited to launch
Project Lineage: A Multi-Rabbitry Study of Trait Inheritance in Domestic Rabbits,
and I am looking for dedicated Rabbitries that want to help contribute data.

What is the goal?

This study aims to examine how often both desirable and undesirable traits appear in offspring when evaluated against the ARBA Standard of Perfection. The goal is to gather real-world breeding data from multiple rabbitries to identify patterns of inheritance that may help breeders make more informed breeding decisions.

Traits being studied
🐇 Loin
🐇 Depth
🐇 Shoulder
🐇 Ears
🐇 Head
🐇 Fur Type
🐇 Fur Coloration
🐇 And More!

Faults being tracked
🐰 Malocclusion
🐰 Screw Tails
🐰 Split P***s
🐰 Limb Abnormalities
🐰 Color Faults
🐰 Other Congenital Abnormalities

Who can participate?

Any breeder of ARBA-recognized breeds is welcome to participate. You do not need to have a large rabbitry. Small and hobby breeders are just as valuable to this project as larger breeding programs!

What information would be needed?

Participants would provide:

Breed
Parent information
Litter information
Evaluations of offspring
Presence or absence of specific faults
Conformation assessments based on the Standard of Perfection

No personal information will be published without explicit permission.

Why participate?

By pooling data across multiple rabbitries, we can move beyond anecdotes and begin building a larger picture of how traits are actually inherited in domestic rabbits. The findings will be shared with participating breeders and may benefit the rabbit community as a whole.

If you're interested in participating or would like more details, please comment below or send me a message. I will also attach the Google Form to volunteer.

Let's build a resource that can help breeders for years to come!

So……..

This was both unexpected and deeply desired, I have been trying to get my lassie girl bred for the entire fall-spring breeding season and for one reason or another, it didn’t stick.
When we came home from Evanston, I had Taylor Rockin Lops Rabbitry and Farm try and palpate her. It would have been a little over a week before her due date and honestly? Didn’t feel like much at all. I poked around myself and thought for a second I felt something but couldn’t find it again when I went for a second feel.
So the night of the 14th, I was about to turn in for the night and I looked at her and just thought, “Just in case, there’s always a chance, better safe than sorry.” I gave her a box and left for the night.
I’d done this with her a handful of times now so when I went out the next morning before work, I about choked when I saw hair everywhere.
Lo and behold, there’s one chin baby in this massive pile of hair. I almost cried and then right as my client showed up, I did one last look and there was a blue chin wobbling around in the corner under the water bowl and it was a frantic morning of work after that 🥲🤪
I warned it back up but I’m not holding my breath that they’ll live, it’s been a day and a half now but new moms are dumb and babies like to drop for no reason sometimes so we’ll see 🥹

Speaking of Evanston, I haven’t announced bringing home this lady-
Sleepy Hollow Rabbitry and I have done a lot of trading back and forth over the last year and I picked this girl up while there.
Sleepy Hollows Taffy is a proven orange brood doe who is pretty fresh off a litter and hopefully can get us some babies come fall. I’ll mostly be pairing her with my blue tort buck so I’ll probably get nothing but solids out of her, I’m not going to complain about that though, hopefully I can keep back some daughters to bred back to my tort to make more tort.
Thanks again Kim, you’re the best! 💛

Well June 6th 2026 Evanston was awesome!

Officially it was my first time at the Evanston show, and what a fantastic show it was!
We took quite a few palomino’s and only three French lops, plus we were showing an extra three rabbit- all different breeds- for a friend.
- 11 total rabbit of mine plus 3 for a friend
- 8 Palominos
- 3 French lops
We had a grand total of 18 palominos between four people- that’s the biggest class we have had yet since I started showing in Utah!

We didnt take a lot of pictures at the show since it was go-go-go all day, but with the show reports coming in today, I can say for sure who got what now 🤪

OPEN A-
Bright Bones Hugo (Sr FL B.)- BOSV
Bright Bones Breezy (Sr P B.)- BOV BOB - leg

OPEN B-
Bright Bones Hugo (Sr FL B.)- BOSV
Eden’s 15AW1- (Sr FL B.)- BOV BOSB - leg

Plus Bright Bones Cat owned by New Moon Rabbitry LLC placed 1st twice in a big class of jr does and got two legs of her own!

We talked lots about color, teeth and flesh condition this show with judges and each other, it was super educational and very validating to hear our own thoughts and feelings expressed by the judges! And can I just say, thank you to all the judges there! It was such an awesome lineup, so wonderful to see and speak to all of you! 💛

It’s really kind of a pity this little one is a runt, it’ll probably be too small to be a breeder/ show rabbit but look at that head already 🥹
