Black On Black

Black On Black BLACK ON BLACK™ is beautifully designed clothing & accessories that are both clothing line AND protest sign. It's not about "YOUR" experience with blackness.

BLACK ON BLACK™ is a social protest that De:Constructs the Construct. Rather "MY" black experience. It’s not about what "YOU" think of "ME". Rather what I think of "MYSELF". I am Rodney White, a Brooklyn based Artist/Art Director/Designer and the creator of Black On Black™. Black On Black™ was born out of the social climate we have to exist in. Both past and present. Where blackness in the mainstr

eam, is more often than not portrayed as a subconscious indelible mark. One that is "almost" acceptable. Never quite getting there. As an Award Winning Art Director, I had first-hand experience with the "mainstream" not accurately depicting US. Not deliberately speaking to US. Not specifically acknowledging US. Having a daughter of "biracial" heritage, I thought it was important for her to see the full spectrum of "blackness" being celebrated. Hers, Mine - OURS. In Color Psychology, "Black implies self-control and discipline, independence and a strong will, and giving an impression of authority and power. Black absorbs negative energy. It is useful to carry something black with you to protect you from harm and negativity when traveling or when going about your usual daily activities outside your home." I give you, you, to carry with you. BLACK ON BLACK™ is beautifully designed clothing & accessories that is both clothing line AND picket sign. I am certainly not the first to do this. And I hope to not be the last.

CMMNTY… What’s up?

BLACK ON BLACK is alive. Still evolving.

The past two years connected everything — my ART, POETRY (HMNSM), SOCIOLOGICAL lens, and LAW OF 39.

None of it is separate.

I’m now writing regularly on Substack under FRMWRKS by RODNEY WHITE.

I wanted to end the last day of with a poem from my favorite poet Saul Williams. This is a friendly reminder to my family out there.

“Any system against us is against the divine!”

I love this reaction. People these days are so uncomfortable with growth. Growth is new. Growth is unknown. To many it’s scary as f**k. But once said and I’m , “Show me a man who is the same 20 years later and I’ll show you a man that wasted 20 years of his life.”
Wear my shirts and water their . Like weeds it will grow without their efforts.

.greene’s post this morning reminded me of this post from a few back. So to round out my Father’s Day block, I think it is time we put this "absentee black father" business to bed once and for all. The numbers don’t support it because . I found this a few years ago and always refer back to it.

"Considering the fact that “black fatherhood” is a phrase that is almost always accompanied by the word “crisis” in U.S. society, it’s understandable that the CDC’s results seem innovative. But in reality, the new data builds upon years of research that’s concluded that hands-on parenting is similar among dads of all races. There’s plenty of scientific evidence to bust this racially-biased myth.”

Come and check me out! Repost from
Food has been connected to Juneteenth since the holiday was first observed on June 19, 1866 — one year after Union Army Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston to announce the emancipation of Black people in Texas, one of the last groups of enslaved people in the U.S. to be freed. Black Texans celebrated a year of freedom with music and food, over time creating annual Juneteenth traditions such as red foods and barbecue.
Our Juneteenth Food Festival on June 18-19 honors the past while creating new traditions in our present. Produced by Jummy’s Picks by Black-Owned Brooklyn (our curatorial brand) and , the event reflects the diversity of Black Brooklyn with more than 20 vendors offering cuisine from across the African Diaspora.
Taking place on the historic grounds of Weeksville Heritage Center — once one of the largest free Black communities in pre-Civil War America and home to many abolitionist leaders — the festival will also feature a marketplace of Black-owned cultural goods, educational activities and performances. To bring the vibes, we’ll have sets from a lineup of all-Black q***r and trans DJs curated by (6/18) and the legendary collective spinning house and club classics (6/19)!
We hope you’ll join us in a space lovingly made for Black joy, freedom and celebration.

I wanna say to all the amazing fathers out there. I know many of them! Also I have to give a big to the black fathers that were taken away from their kids. It’s too many to name and that is the infuriating part of it all. It’s not lost on me as I spend time with my girls that & should also be here with their kids. .
