It was a cool day to cook though we enjoyed the sunshine while it lasted. 😊😊 I made puddings of haste which are small boiled puddings. It was fun waiting for them to rise to the top! And they were scrumptious with the sauce πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

Getting prepared for tomorrow! Historic cookware has been cleaned and ready to be used. Recipes have been recorded in my trusty hisroric cookery journal. Hard to believe I began my journey in 2018...time has flown. Want to know what I am making? Hint: It is boiled a bit quickly. You have to come visit to find out!

I hope you can come out to Colerain Forges Mansion to enjoy their History Day! It is from 10 am to 3pm. If you are not able to come out, please donate to help preserve this historic iron master's mansion. You can donate by going to their website at coleraincenter.org

Happy Easter! I made a 1800s Shaker recipe for sweet corn pudding and it tasted almost as good as my little sister's baked corn! 🀭🀭

Coming up for Finding Historic Cookery, I will be open fire cooking at Colerain Forges Mansion on May 2nd. Down to decision time...what shall I make?? Any suggestions?

Had a great first Living History day at the The Colerain Forges Mansion! Made Scots Barley broth, oatcakes, and switchel. Everything was tasty! πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹ Hubby blacksmithed while I cooked.

Last year was a hard year. We lost so many good people and pets that it has been hard to hold my head up. That being said, it's time to dive back in! 😊😊

This is me and my younger sister enjoying ice cream sandwiches at our family reunion. The best time of the year! Many years later and I still enjoy food! (A little too much the scales say...but I digress!) 🀣

I'm looking forward to getting back into hearth cooking and learning more about historic cookery. Who else is ready to join in?? πŸ₯°πŸ˜

Another successful hearth cooking evening! Had hubby in with me off and on. We had a great turn out at the village! We had fun talking about why we did not have a Christmas tree. The house was representing an early 1800s home in early frontier Pennsylvania. Christmas was not as celebrated and Christmas trees were mostly in German homes. It was more likely to be celebrating 12th night or yuletide. I loved our boxwood, holly, and spruce decorations. 😍😍

The best part is the pie crust and puff paste I made rolled how they were supposed to!! I even got some lamination going on! 😁😁 the buttered apple pie tasted amazing...a little tart and a little sweet with the wonderful taste of mace and cinnamon. We made mulled cider too with cinnamon sticks, allspice, and cloves. Very tasty!! Now to hobble around today and recoup from standing in historic shoes! 😬😬 it was worth it!!

Getting ready for this evening's festivities! If you have time, come out to Old Bedford Village and see what Christmas was like in the 1700s and 1800s. It is open from 5pm to 9pm. I will be in house 2 doing some baking.

I'm pretty excited...got my little glass bottles to put my spices in!! 😁😁
