This week we loaded up three of our grass fed, hormone free, all natural grain finished cattle to take to the butcher. The beef will be aged 21 days and then cut into USDA inspected packages and available for sale soon!

It was a rainy day but the appointment was made many months ago so, we had to get there that morning.

Today we put up our first group of working pens! This is our latest investment into raising great beef cattle and we are so excited!

We decided to go with the Arrowquip 74 Squeeze Chute for several of what we consider good reasons. 🙂 This chute has a palpation cage so that we can perform Artificial Insemination, castrations, pregancy checks and more easily.

Reviving an old farm is a lot of work and requires money to be spent for things like these working pens so that we can create a low stress and productive environment for the cattle.

This farm has been a restorative place for my family. My parents bought the original tract in a season of their lives and marriage that was not easy. The pace and the work on the farm helped them take a new trajectory in all areas and promoted healing.

Reintroducing cattle in the past few weeks reignites the life of this land and it is a joy to get to start that fire again.

The first calf born on the farm in decades! After checking on the ladies today several others look like they are going to give birth soon as well. This journey of raising cattle is hard work but full of beauty.
