This muscadine variety known as Pineapple was planted in December 2024. Its size is 1" in diameter with a 16% sugar content. I ate one today that tasted like the perfect blend of pineapple and muscadine. I can't wait for them to all ripen up for picking, so you can try it too.

This large muscadine variety is Supreme. It's size is about 1-1/2" in diameter. It is one of the largest varieties of muscadines with a very high 22% sugar content. This variety is great for fresh picking and making jam. This vine was planted in December 2022.

Muscadines come in three different colors: Black, Bronze, and Red (or pink). There are several different varieties of muscadines with different flavors and sugar content. At the farm we have Carlos, Noble, Ison, Paulk, Supreme, Pineapple, Scuppernong, Dixie Red, Tara, and Black Beauty. All of these are muscadines. Yes, a Scuppernong is a variety of muscadine. Different varieties also come in different sizes from 1/2" to 1-1/2" in diameter.

All this recent rain has resulted in some very healthy vines. There's been 8 inches in just this month alone at the farm.
It takes 2-3 years for the first real harvest of newly planted vines. Some of these that were planted in December 2022 will have a great first year harvest. Pictures of grapes ripening will come in the next post.

This weekend we worked to improve drainage around the farm. We installed drainage pipe, boxes, and yard hydrants, and relocated water lines to the chicken coop.
