Meet Timothy Shellamet. He is a Sulcata tortoise that came to us as a foundling from the Killeen/Florence area. No microchip was found and no one has come forward to claim ownership. He weighs around 40 pounds and age is unknown. If you are interested in adopting Timothy or any of the other animals in our care contact us directly.

Hello All! Just a little update on how things are going at LJ Acres. We have been extremely busy here. Currently we have two regular volunteers that are putting in about eight hours a week combined. The rest is being done by two people. Just in case you were wondering no we do not get a day off. We have had a few animals pass away, which is always hard, including one of our senior chinchillas. 

 Funding is still extremely low.  Less than 10% of our budget per month is being met and as a result, we have had to close as well as most offsite activities due to lack of funding. We are still doing limited on site activities and tours. Our next step is to see what direction we are heading in with our organization. Yes we know that we can apply for grants. The problem is that we don't have the time to write grants. We have lots of animals to care for and very few volunteers and animal care come first. And yes we are still doing adoptions so if you are looking to adopt and animal reach out to us directly.

UPDATE:
Little Lenny is home! Everything went well.
The total bill was $559.83.

Lenny will need to go back in two weeks to have his sutures removed.

Little Lenny is at the vets office this morning for surgery on his right ear. He has a hematoma that won’t go away.

Bunny grooming day!!!
We have 15 buns, 7 guinea pigs, 2 sugar gliders, 2 chinchillas, and 2 ferrets in our small animal barn.

We noticed Lenny has lost some weight and is extremely lethargic. This morning his ear was swollen.
So, back to Hwy 29 today to see what’s going on.
He has a hematoma in his ear. Headed home with two medication’s and a follow up appointment.
Praying these meds will take care of him. If not more tests to follow.

Never a dull moment at LJ Acres Animal Life Center. We had to take poor spike in this morning for an emergency check. He’s not been acting his normal self the past day or so. Turns out he is running a fever and has an upper respiratory infection.

Donation update

Thank you to those who donate. The donations we received as a result of our last post gave us enough funding to feed the 14 pasture animals for 10 days. That’s about 10 # of the animals here in our care.

Fact: Less than 5% of those that we have an interaction with who tell us they are going to donate and/or volunteer actually do. And unfortunately the smaller nonprofit organizations often are forgotten about until they are needed for assistance.
