Dear Friends and Valued Guests,

It is with a heavy heart that we share some bittersweet news. After a wonderful 10-year run, tomorrow, Friday July 24, will be the final day of service for Alatri Bros.

First, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out last night for the fundraiser in honor of our beloved head chef Wilber. Your presence, support, and generosity meant the world to his family and to all of us. It was a beautiful evening filled with celebration and love.

Alatri has been our third concept, and for those who don’t know, the name comes from our parents’ hometown in Italy. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to serve the Bethesda community all these years. We are deeply grateful for your incredible support, loyal patronage, and the outpouring of kindness you have shown us throughout the decade. Our gratitude runs deep.

We also want to thank our incredible staff, both current and past. You have been inspiring to work with, and it is because of you that we were able to pay tribute to our ancestral family roots every single day.

For the time being, the Alatri space will be used for private events and special occasions.

To honor Wilber’s life and support his family, we will be hosting a fundraiser this Wednesday, July 22nd, at Alatri Bros. Proceeds will support Wilber’s family with funeral arrangements and additional expenses.

We hope you’ll join us to celebrate Wilber’s life, enjoy some great food, and show our love and appreciation for his family.

This past weekend, we lost a great man from our Alatri Bros. family. After more than twenty five years in this business, I can honestly say I’ve never met anyone quite like Emerson Melendez, also known as Wilber to many of us. He was one of the nicest, kindest people I’ve ever known, with an infectious smile and an upbeat personality that lit up our kitchen every single day. He was truly special.

Long before Alatri Bros. called this location home, Wilber had already spent many years working here when it was Mia’s. In a way, he came with the place and when we took over, it didn’t take long to see why. His incredible personality, work ethic, and heart made it clear that he belonged here with us.

Wilber was a talented chef who truly cared about this restaurant like it was his own… something incredibly rare in this industry. He gave it his best professionally and we are forever grateful for the passion, dedication, and loyalty he brought to our team every single day.

Though he has left us physically, his spirit, joyful personality, and the impact he made will always live on in our hearts.
