Bethlehem Co-op Market Opening Saturday, Dec. 5 with Preview Market Days events starting Thursday, Oct. 1. Your community owned, full-service grocery store at 250 E. Parking too!

Broad St., Bethlehem, PA. Owned by 1760+ member-owners and open to all shoppers! Our goals are to offer healthy, affordable, locally-focused food and educational offerings in a convenient neighborhood location. The store, to be located at 250 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, will be open for everyone to shop at. Our Mission:

The Bethlehem Food Co-Op is a diverse community encouraging physical, social, and economic health by providing healthful, affordable food; emphasizing local, sustainable, humane and natural food systems; and offering unique educational opportunities to the entire community. Important Things That Make Us Awesome:

Community Owned: The co-op will be owned by its members. Yes—YOU will be able to own the grocery store you shop at. And, not only can you own a share of the store, that share will give you an equal voice in the democratic process of the store. Community-Operated: The people in the community the co-op serves will operate our store. We will provide good jobs for our community! In Downtown Bethlehem: The co-op will be an oasis of fresh food in the north downtown neighborhood of Bethlehem - open and accessible to all! Healthy Food: We plan to focus on local foods and organic offerings, helping our community live the best life it can, while supporting local providers. Affordable Food: Members will receive discounts on co-op products, and prices will be limited by working directly with producers and offering alternative buying options like bulk bins. Informational Workshops: The co-op will not just be a grocery store. We want to continue to engage with our community and offer education and recreation opportunities like classes on nutrition, cooking, gardening, composting and more! We're gearing up for another big Preview Market Days event - tomorrow!

📅Thursday, Oct. 15
🕓4-7 pm
📍250 E. Broad St.

Ahead of our planned Dec. 5 store opening, we've scheduled a number of events so ALL SHOPPERS can see our new market site and start shopping with some of the local vendors whose wares will stock our store.

For Thursday, bring your grocery tote to shop with 13 local vendors - you can also buy a seasonal, locally-grown box of produce for $30 from Scholl Orchards (limited quantities).

Then on Saturday we'll be open from 9-noon: drop by for a tour, get info about the co-op, buy some co-op merch - and if there are any unsold produce boxes, those will be available too. (Note that this is not a vendor event.)

**TRAVEL ADVISORY FOR SATURDAY** East Broad Street will be closed in front of our store between 9-10 am for another event. We'll be there at 9! So if you come then, we recommend you park north of Broad Street and walk over to the store.

We're welcoming 2 more new vendors to our Preview Market Days event on Thursday!

Everyone is welcome to come shop directly with 13 of the local vendors whose products we'll be carrying when our market opens on Dec. 5. Thursday's event will run from 4-7 pm at our new store site, 250 E. Broad St.

Joining us will be Jenny's Kuali Sauces, featuring ginger garlic sauce, chili sauce, satay peanut sauce, and ginger garlic cream cheese spread, and Crooked Tree Chicken Ranch, with their chicken and chicken-based products from humanely raised, Free Range Lifestyle animals.

You can also shop for sourdough breads, tofu, kombucha, produce, mushrooms, honey, garlic products, eco-friendly paper products, artisan cheeses, cocktail/mocktail kits, and tea, among much else - bring your grocery tote (or 2)!

Let's meet 2 of the 4 new vendors who will be at our Preview Market Days event on Thursday!

Everyone is welcome to come shop directly with 13 of the local vendors whose products we'll be carrying when our market opens on Dec. 5. Thursday's event will run from 4-7 pm at our new store site, 250 E. Broad St.

Joining us will be Scholl Orchards, featuring apples, apple sauce and fruit butters, and Keystone Cheese, with 6-10 varieties of handcrafted, artisan cheese.

You can also shop for sourdough breads, naturally-raised chicken, tofu, kombucha, produce, mushrooms, honey, garlic products, garlic sauces, eco-friendly paper products, cocktail/mocktail kits, and tea, among much else - bring your grocery tote (or 2)!

It was another great Preview Market event today at our new store site at 250 E. Broad St.!

We welcomed a lot of member-owners, as well as other neighbors stopping by to learn more about our plans to open a full-service, community owned market on Saturday, Dec. 5.

We also welcomed a new member-owner household, the Kanach family! They now "own a grocery store" with 1760+ of their friends 🛒

Next up: our Thursday Preview event with 13 local vendors, set up to sell their wares. All shoppers are welcome - drop by between 4-7 pm (and bring your grocery totes)!

"From the Ground Up: Building a Stronger Local Food System"

🧑‍🌾How can we improve fresh food access for everyone?
🧑‍🌾 How can we feed people with the food we grow right here in the Valley?
🧑‍🌾 How can we get local food on the plates in our schools?

Healthy land, thriving farms, and access to good food are all connected. Megan McBride, Director of Buy Fresh Buy Local of the Greater Lehigh Valley, will share how preserving farmland, supporting new and beginning farmers, caring for our soil and environment, and improving access to local food can work together to build a stronger, healthier community for the future.

Her presentation is part of the Hi Neighbors speakers program, at First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem - PCUSA, 2344 Center St., on Monday (Oct. 12). All are welcome to this free program; there is no registration needed. The event begins at 9:30 am with a social time, followed by the program at 10 am.

Megan's presentation is based on BFBL's extensive recent report, "Farm to Community: The Lehigh Valley Food System."

Come and learn more about the important work being done in our Lehigh Valley food system, of which we'll soon be a bigger part!

What could be better than stopping by to visit other food co-ops? If you're headed to New England to enjoy the fall scenery, there are many co-op's in that neck of the woods (see what we did there?). Author/co-op guru Jon Steinman has you covered with his "Food Co-op Finder" app.
