Bethlehem Co-op Market

Bethlehem Co-op Market Your community owned, full-service grocery store at 250 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA. Owned by 1750+ member-owners - opening to all shoppers in 2026! Parking too!

Our goals are to offer healthy, affordable, locally-focused food and educational offerings in a convenient neighborhood location. The store, to be located at 250 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, will be open for everyone to shop at. Our Mission:

The Bethlehem Food Co-Op is a diverse community encouraging physical, social, and economic health by providing healthful, affordable food; emphasizing local, sus

tainable, humane and natural food systems; and offering unique educational opportunities to the entire community. Important Things That Make Us Awesome:

Community Owned: The co-op will be owned by its members. Yes—YOU will be able to own the grocery store you shop at. And, not only can you own a share of the store, that share will give you an equal voice in the democratic process of the store. Community-Operated: The people in the community the co-op serves will operate our store. We will provide good jobs for our community! In Downtown Bethlehem: The co-op will be an oasis of fresh food in the north downtown neighborhood of Bethlehem - open and accessible to all! Healthy Food: We plan to focus on local foods and organic offerings, helping our community live the best life it can, while supporting local providers. Affordable Food: Members will receive discounts on co-op products, and prices will be limited by working directly with producers and offering alternative buying options like bulk bins. Informational Workshops: The co-op will not just be a grocery store. We want to continue to engage with our community and offer education and recreation opportunities like classes on nutrition, cooking, gardening, composting and more! Convenient Neighborhood Location: The store will be accessible on foot or by public transit or bicycle. Visit us at bethlehemfood.coop

Today let's take a revisit of our mission - we hope you will take a moment to reflect on these important words:

"The Bethlehem Co-op Market is a diverse community encouraging physical, social, and economic health by providing healthful, affordable food; emphasizing local, sustainable, humane and natural food systems; and offering unique educational opportunities to the entire community."

Just a reminder that this is not just a snappy slogan, but drives our work each and every day!

We know many of you are interested in our food system and how it works - and how it could work better - so this new documentary may be of interest to you!

"Fork in the Road" - narrated by Nick Offerman - follows small farmers, visionary chefs, and innovators working to heal the land, improve our food systems, and transition to a regenerative future for people and the planet. A Q&A with the filmmakers and Maria Rodale, local author and organic enthusiast, will follow.

This is the Opening Night event for the 22nd annual SouthSide Film Festival, and will include an opening party and the screening - admission payable at the door is $10 each ($5 for Bethlehem Co-op Market member-owners, or free with an all-access pass). You can attend either or both parts of the evening:

We love to showcase our local growers - and in this case, Apple Ridge Farm will be a vendor at our new market, and is already participating as a Member Benefits Program partner.

You can hear their story when co-owner Brian Bruno joins host Mike Drabenstott on the latest episode of "Inside Dish" on WDIY 88.1 FM. You can listen to it here or on the WDIY app or website: bit.ly/4dTO8f9

Apple Ridge Farm is an artisan sourdough bakery and diversified farm in Saylorsburg, guided by sustainability - from wood-fired ovens to pasture-raised animals that mow the fence lines.

Brian talks about their heirloom vegetables and root crops that feed a thriving fermentation business, and the composting system that's allowed them to avoid purchasing soil inputs. He also reflects on the evolving relationship between consumers and local producers.

We're looking forward to offering Apple Ridge products in our new full-service market, that will be open to all shoppers later this year.

Tomorrow! We'll be at the Easton Farmers' Market with our info table (look for us by the Larry Holmes statue, next to the market's tasting tent).

This popular market runs from 9 am - 1 pm, and is located at Scott Park (128 Larry Holmes Drive). Lots of great growers and producers so you can !

And stop by to say hello to Mandi, Kathy, Joe - and Todd - to "talk co-op". They'll have the latest updates, and can provide info about how to support the new full-service, community owned market that we're bringing to Bethlehem - open to all shoppers later this year 😀

With thanks to the folks at the Easton Farmers' Market for this opportunity to connect with our neighbors!

Big chain grocery stores work for profits. Co-ops reinvest them.

When you shop at a co-op market, every dollar you spend stays closer to home - supporting local vendors. That means your grocery dollars fuel local jobs, local farms, and local producers, not distant shareholders. Built by our local community to support our local community.

That's one of the many reasons we're working hard to bring a full-service, community owned co-op market to 250 E. Broad St. Opening later this year, we'll be open to all shoppers.

If this resonates with you, consider joining us as one of our 1750+ member-owners: bethlehemcoopmarket.com/join-us.

It's - and as we do all year round, we're honored to celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ community, including the neighbors, owners, shoppers, staff, and partners who help make this co-op what it is.

We believe community spaces should be welcoming, inclusive, and rooted in care for one another, and Pride Month is an important opportunity to reflect on both the history and ongoing importance of that work.

We look forward to welcoming all of our neighbors when we open later this year with our full-service, community owned grocery store.
